Tottenham vs Manchester United predictions and betting tips for Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Wembley including an anytime goalscorer tip and match result prediction.
Manchester United come into this one the form side but in truth they haven’t really been tested by a team in the upper echelons of the table. In Spurs, they will certainly face that challenge, and I expect the home side to run out winners in a tightly-contested affair.
Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer has had a dream start to his stint in the hot seat at Old Trafford but you get the impression that fans and pundits alike might be getting slightly ahead of themselves. The Norwegian had a somewhat ill-fated spell at Cardiff a few years ago and the ghost of that failed tenure is still fresh in the memory of many. Granted, United do look a lot more fluid than they had previously under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho but that doesn’t mean they’ll be winning every game herein – far from it. I fancy Spurs to pull a repeat of their performance against Chelsea in midweek and see off their rivals via some resolute defending. Mauricio Pochettino’s men look a good bet at 11/10 and it’s not often you’ll see them at that price when playing at ‘home’.
10 points currently separate these teams ahead of Sunday’s clash.
They last met in October, with United running out 1-0 winners.
In fact, the last three times these two have met the score has been settled by a single goal.
As we’re very much accustomed to seeing, Harry Kane is once again at the summit of the Premier League goalscoring charts – and I doubt if there’s anyone out there surprised by that fact. It was Kane who scored the decisive winner in his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg victory on Tuesday night, stepping up to calmly tuck away a VAR-awarded penalty. The decision to award the spot-kick was slightly contentious but there were no doubts about the likely outcome once the England forward had the ball under his arm. Kane completed a remarkable feat – yes, another one – against Cardiff City a couple of weeks ago, scoring a goal against the Bluebirds to ensure he has netted against every single Premier League team he’s faced. The 25-year-old has only scored twice against Manchester United but I expect that tally to increase imminently. He’s 5/4 to bag at some stage against the Red Devils, so make sure you take advantage of a rare odds-against price on Spurs’ number 10.
If Manchester United play as expansively as they have done in recent weeks then you’d expect the likes of Christian Eriksen to pick them apart at will. This will be a real test of Solskjaer’s credentials as a long-term managerial option so I’m envisaging he errs on the side of caution on Sunday afternoon. Spurs showed they’re capable of soaking up pressure when they saw off Chelsea in midweek and that will give them confidence to replicate that approach should the situation necessitate. I can see a repeat of the 1-0 score line which has been all too common in recent encounters between these two sides, with Tottenham finding that all important winner. You can get odds of 11/1 on that outcome with Betfred which is significantly more generous than odds available elsewhere.
