It is the week before the biggest event on the golfing calendar, The Masters. We head to Texas this week for the Houston Open we’re plenty of players will be aiming to hit top form heading into next week.

Houston Open Tips
My main selection is VIKTOR HOVLAND 25/1 EW (PADDY POWER 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8). Since golf resumed after lockdown Hovland has played in 14 events and made the cut every time. This shows the level of consistency his game has at such a young age and it is only a matter of time before he progresses from cuts made to titles won. He’s very strong off the tee and he sits in the top 10 for Par 5 scoring which is a key asset this week as we have 5 par 5s for the players to tackle. Hovland didn’t qualify to play the Masters so he has no distractions and will be focused on being at peak performance for this week where a lot of the market rivals will be using this as a stepping stone. I fee he’ll be out to prove a point and the course will suit him down to the ground.
Scottie Scheffler @ 22/1
My next selection is SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER 22/1 EW (WILLIAM HILL 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8). Scheffler has impressed us all this year with the level of form he’s shown on his rookie season on the PGA Tour. On his last start at Sherwood GC he topped the stats in Strokes gained off the tee which shows he’s driving it as well as anyone recently. Scottie is a bit of a streaky putter and if he’s on a going week with the blade I expect a bold show. The course will suit as he will expect to eat up the par 5s and knows how to go low.
Zach Johnson @ 40/1
My next selection is ZACH JOHNSON 40/1 EW (WILLIAM HILL 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8). The former Masters Champion will be excited returning to Augusta next week as his game is in top shape. He used to make a habit of winning the week before The Masters as he loved winning the John Deere Classic which used to be the week before. Why not continue it in this wild 202? In all serious, it shows his game is always in great shape heading into the Masters and he will be playing to win this week. He has five par 5s to contend with here but he did win a Masters laying up on every par 5 which shows how good his wedge game is. He’ll still be expecting to birdie them every time. He has a fine record in the state of Texas and the victory of his best friend Stewart Cink last month can only be used as inspiration.
Cameron Davis @ 60/1
My final selection is CAMERON DAVIS 60/1 EW (PADDY POWER 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8). Call it a bit of a hunch bet but I think Davis will go well this week. He has shown us numerous times this season he is one of the many young talents we have in our game at the moment and he seems to show us most on courses that are set up for birdies and plenty of them. He often gets off to a fast start and I’m hoping for a similar outcome this week before kicking on for the remaining three days. The course will suit well as the fairways are wide so he can open his shoulders and leave himself plenty of opportunities to hit short irons into the greens. He has won big tournaments in his homeland of Australia and he’s ready to step up and win on the PGA Tour very soon. Hopefully, for us, it’s this week.
