Golf Betting Tips: Cyprus Open Preview and Five Selections to Bet On
The European Tour heads to Cyprus for the next two weeks as we head to Aphrodite Hills Golf Club. Set up to be a resort course we can expect birdies and plenty of them again this week.
Henry picked out a 30/1 winner on last week’s Zozo Championship preview and the shortest odds of the 5 selections for the Cyprus Open this week is 33/1 so let’s hope for more success in our golf tips.
Sami Valimaki 33/1 (each-way)
My first selection is SAMI VALIMAKI 33/1 E/W (UNIBET 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6). Valimaki would have been a new name too many people this season but I’m sure many people know who he is now. Valimaki should be a lot shorter in the betting for me here. He is one of the most improved players this season and he has a lot of confidence in his game. I mean, why wouldn’t he? He has already won on Tour this year when winning in Oman earlier this year. This course is very similar to that venue which bodes well. He has been in the top 15 in four of the last five starts including on his last start at Wentworth which is the signature event on the European Tour and is arguable the strongest field of the season. This represents a drop in class and he has to be included.
Antoine Rozner 35/1 (each-way)
My next selection is ANTOINE ROZNER 35/1 E/W (PADDY POWER 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6,7). The Frenchman has really impressed in his rookie season and he added another top 10 to the lost last week where he finished with a stunning round of 65 over in Italy. That makes it five top 10s for the season which shows the level of form Rozner has brought with him to the European Tour and I believe this weeks venue represents a great opportunity for him to get his maiden victory. He was just touched over by the superstar Rasmus Hojgaard in Mauritius last year but he didn’t falter there when in with a great chance of winning and that experience will help him for when the next opportunity to win represents itself. I believe it could be this week on a course that is going to suit him down to the ground.
Nicolas Colsaerts 40/1 (each-way)
My next selection is NICOLAS COLSAERTS 40/1 E/W (WILLIAM HILL 1/5 1,2,3,4,5,6). Colsaerts really impressed down the stretch last week to me on his way to a 68 which resulted in a tie for 2nd place. He started with a bogey there before picking up five birdies and no further bogeys. The thing that caught my eye was how well he was holing out down the stretch. That has never been a strength for Colsaerts and I’m sure the way he putted on the back nine last week will give him plenty of confidence. He won in October last year so hopefully this is his time of year. He has a fine record on these birdie feast resort courses and I can see him backing up last weeks 2nd place with another great result here this week.
Adrian Meronk 80/1 (each-way)
My next selection here is ADRIAN MERONK 80/1 E/W (BET365 1/4 1,2,3,4,5). Meronk has the ability to overpower this golf course and his game appears to be in top shape heading into this week. He was very pleased with how he put the ball in Italy last week on his way to a tie for 22nd. I’m confident he can build on that and with there only being one par 4 over 450 yards here I expect him to have a lot of short irons/wedges into these holes which should result in plenty of birdie chances. If he has a going week with the putter I expect him to be right there on Sunday.
Nacho Elvira 150/1 (each-way)
My final selection is a speculative one and that is NACHO ELVIRA 150/1 E/W (PADDY POWER 1/51,2,3,4,5,6,7). Elvira has been getting lessons of the great Jose Maria Olazabal and you can see the signs are definitely there. Another Spaniard who was receiving coaching lessons off Olazabal over the last few months was Otaegui who went on to pick up his first stroke play event in Scotland two weeks ago. Elvira will be well suited to this layout and although he missed the cut last week I’m hoping that will have shaken any rust in his game off after a few weeks off. He has played well in similar parts of the world on similar style golf courses so I’m happy to give him a chance this week.
