Cheltenham Festival 2021 Lucky 15 Tips – A Tip from each of the Championship Races

Cheltenham Festival tips

The Cheltenham Festival of 2021 will be taking place behind closed doors, but that doesn’t mean we can’t place our bets on the four days of racing. Today we have picked out an ante-post lucky 15 tip from the four big races of the week.

The ‘Championship Races’ are the four feature races of the week, namely the Champion Hurdle (Tuesday), the Champion Chase (Wednesday), the Stayers Hurdle (Thursday) and the big race of the week, the Cheltenham Gold Cup (Friday).

Our 2021 ante-post Cheltenham Festival tips already have predictions for every race in them, and today we are focusing on these four Championship races for a lucky 15 tip across the four days.

Cheltenham Festival Lucky 15 Tips

  • Champion Hurdle
  • Champion Chase
  • Stayers Hurdle
  • Gold Cup

Champion Hurdle

Epatante is the best horse in the Champion Hurdle entries and despite the setback at Christmas, the mare is still a clear favourite to retain her crown, along with Honeysuckle, who won the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown and now looks increasingly likely to line up in the English equivalent at Cheltenham.

If Sharjah can get a better running position in the field this year, he could pose a serious threat but the rest of the top contenders need to iron out their inconsistencies to rival Epatante’s pace and precision.

Champion Chase

The champion in waiting could well be Chacun Pour Soi from Willie Mullins’ yard, who missed out on the race last year with an abscess on his foot.

He was last seen winning the Paddy’s Rewards Club Chase at Leopardstown in December, beating notable opponents in Notebook and Put The Kettle On, and then most recently winning at the Dublin Racing Festival with a mightily impressive performance.

Mullins was delighted with the performance and felt the horse had plenty left in the tank, it was a class performance that has made Chacun Pour Soi the short-priced favourite for this race.

At nine-years-old, the horse is not a spring chicken but it has won three Grade One races and could finally have a crack at the Champion Chase in March.

Stayers Hurdle

Getting down to the nitty-gritty, so to speak, Paisley Park and Thyme Hill look the two on which to concentrate, with a preference for the latter.

Still only a 7-year-old, Thyme Hill finished a close third to Envoi Allen in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper in 2019 and an even closer fourth to Monkfish in the Albert Novices’ Hurdle, despite being denied a clear run in the closing stages.

Described by trainer Philip Hobbs as ‘very exciting’, winning the Stayers’ Hurdle is his main objective this season so, while he is likely to head straight to the Cheltenham Festival, his preparation should, hopefully, be spot on.

Cheltenham Gold Cup

Winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup twice, never mind three times, is a formidable task, but it is, frankly, difficult to get away from Al Boum Photo, who has fewer questions to answer than his rivals.

The recent Irish Gold Cup was won by Kemboy but that performance did nothing to shake up the Cheltenham Gold Cup market with some horses drifting even more in the betting such as Delta Work. Presenting Percy will not line up in the Friday feature race but Santini will come on for his run around Sandown, however he failed to get past Al Boum Photo last season and there is nothing to suggest he will this time around.

Lucky 15 Tip

  • Champion Hurdle – Epatante to win (5/2)
  • Champion Chase – Chacun Pour Soi to win (4/5)
  • Stayers Hurdle – Thyme Hill to win (3/1)
  • Cheltenham Gold Cup – Al Boum Photo to win (5/2)
