1:30 Goodwood

The opener on ITV is a 4 runner Conditional Stakes contest over the mile.

My selection here is AL MUBHIR (9/4) NB. He’s only had one run to date and that was over at Newmarket last October. He won impressively that day and the form has worked out well. He has more scope to improve again and Haggas’ often do. His homework must be good because he’s entered in plenty of top races this season. He’d have to be winning this to justify that.

1:50 Newmarket

The first race from HQ is the Newmarket Stakes, a listed race over 1m2f.

The one I’ll chance is the rank outsider AUSTRIAN THEORY (16/1). The Mark Johnston team are currently in fine fettle and this lad ran a decent seasonal reappearance here at Newmarket earlier this month finishing third in the Fielden Stakes. I think he’ll get a soft lead here and this track on quick ground definitely suits the front runner.

2:25 Newmarket

The 2:25 race is another listed race, this time the King Charles II over 7f.

The one for me here is NOBLE TRUTH (2/1). He was a decent 2 year-old last season which included victories both at this level and at this track. He brings Group 1 form to the table after going close at Longchamp in the Grand Citerium. I’m happy to draw a line through his last start as he just didn’t handle the dirt that day. Tough to beat.

2:40 Goodwood

The 2:40 from Goodwood is up next and it is a trappy 5f sprint handicap.

The selection is STONE OF DESTINY (7/2) for the Andrew Balding team. The stable started slowly but they are really starting to come to the boil now and hopefully this selection can give them another winner. He’s a talented but frustrating horse but I think Goodwood will suit him well. If he puts his best foot forward, he’s more than capable off this mark of 94 given he’s won off 93.

3:00 Newmarket

The 3:00 is up next and it’s a Class 2 Handicap over 7f.

I like SHINE SO BRIGHT (5/2)NAP here again for the Balding team. He takes a significant drop in class here and if he’s ready to go first start of the season he should prove to be better than his opposition here. He’s a Group 2 winner running in a handicap with a useful claimer in Harry Davies taken 7lb off.

3:15 Goodwood

The 3:15 race is the Daisy Warwick Fillies Stakes, a listed contest over the 1m4f distance.

The one for me in this race is SILENCE PLEASE (7/2) for that man again Andrew Balding. A useful performer in Ireland for Jessie Harrington, she know makes her debut for Balding in this listed race. She’s certainly ran in better races than this throughout her career and she’ll be well suited by the trip and lightning fast ground today in my opinion.

3:35 Newmarket

The finale on ITV’s Friday coverage is Group 3 action, the Jockey Club Stakes over 1m4f.

I’d expect YIBIR (1/3 – no bet) to win this and win this well. He is comfortably the best horse in the race and there’s nothing in this that’s close to his level based on what we’ve seen. He only has to give 3lb away and I can’t say that being a problem at all.
