1:30 Ascot

The opener on ITV comes from Ascot and it’s a 0-95 Class 3 handicap over 1m4f for 4-year-olds and older.

The one for me here is HIGH FIBRE (11/2). He was a decent two-year-old for Ralph Beckett when culminated in a decent victory at Newmarket on his final start that season. He only ran once last term so he’s obviously had his problems. However, his one run last season was a fine second beaten a head by a solid yardstick in Educator from the Haggas stable. If he returns in similar form for new trainer Harry Fry, a mark of 89 is well within reach.

1:50 Lingfield

The first of four races on the AW from Lingfield is a 7f handicap.

The one I’ve landed on is LEGAL REFORM (6/1) for the shrewd Ivan Furtado stable. A winner on his last two starts at Southwell and Catterick, he is the likely pace angle again in here. He may well get an easy lead here and jockey Richard Kingscote is very good from the front. Only raised 2lb for the victory last time, he’ll do for me.

2:05 Ascot

The next race from Ascot comes up at 2:05 and it is a 1m handicap for the fillies.

The one for me here is TIMELESS MELODY (11/4) NAP. She was impressive on her latest start at Leicester for new yard Williams Haggas staying on strongly to win well. She proved she handles deep conditions that day as it was heavy ground. She’s bound to improve further now handicapping and trainer Haggas has turned a corner recently when is promising.

2:25 Lingfield

Next up at Lingfield is the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies Stakes over 7f.

It’s SANDRINE (3/1) for me in this. The duo of Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy are in fine form at the moment and I think Sandrine has a great chance to enhance it here. A good winner at Group 2 level last season winning the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, she backed that up with a good third at York next time out. The ground was a reasonable excuse on her final start at Longchamp and she’s been freshened up since. I think she has a solid chance against this lot.

2:40 Ascot

The final race from Ascot on ITV is the competitive Victoria Cup over the 7f trip.

The one I like in here is SIR DANCEALOT (66/1) EW at a big price. He has been around a while and is well suited by this course and distance. I think he’s possibly drawn on the right side as there is plenty of pace on within the high numbers. His effort last time out finishing a staying on second suggests he’s still capable of running well at the age of 9. He’ll be staying on stronger than most over this stiff 7f and it has to be of interest that Gerald Mosse is over for the ride.

3:00 Lingfield

The first key trial from Lingfield is at 3:00 and it is the Oaks Fillies Trial Stakes, a listed contest over 1m4f.

I think BE HAPPY (15/8) NB will take a lot of beating in here. The Aiden O’Brien string have bounced back well this week at York and Be Happy looks sure to relish this step up to 1m4f for the first time. She was a staying on third on seasonal reappearance over in France on soft ground. That should have put her spot on for this and I think she can improve past her rivals with that run under her belt.

3:15 Haydock

We have one race over the jumps and it’s a decent renewal of the Swindon Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles.

I do like BRENTFORD HOPE (9/2) in here for the Harry Derham stable. Harry Derham is done well on his first season as a trainer and he can have a decent ITV winner here. Brentford Hope was highly tried and highly thought of on the flat for Richard Hughes and he was known to relish soft conditions. It’ll be soft today and he seems to have really taken well to hurdling. A winner of his last two starts, he beat a well fancied Henderson horse last time out making all. I think he can continue improving and this track and trip will suit him well. He has a lovely racing weight of 10’4 too.

3:35 Lingfield

The final race is the listed Derby Trial Stakes again over the 1m4f trip.

It’s MILITARY ORDER (6/5) for me in here. The Charlie Appleby team tend to target one of their best at this trial as proven with Adayar and I think Military Order could well be their best Derby chance this season. He came on from his debut effort at Newmarket to win well there on his second start. That progression continued when making all last time out at Newbury making it look easy to win by 4L. He’s improving fast and I think he’ll take a lot of stopping in this for powerful connections.
