Easter Saturday give us eight live races as the flat season continues to get going at Musselburgh and Newbury. The action gets underway at 1.32pm and Henry has picked out his betting tip from each race.

There are four races from Musselburgh and four from Newburym including three Group 3 races.

1:32 Musselburgh

The 1:32 Musselburgh opens proceedings and its a Class 3 Handicap known as the Royal Mile.

My selection here is SPIRIT CATCHER (6/1). Musselburgh is a track that favours the front runners and I expect this Mark Johnston runner to make use of stall 2 and get to the front. Mark Johnston has a fine record in this race and Spirit Catcher comes into this making his handicap debut off what could be a lenient mark. He is the choice of Joe Fanning which is significant and on only his third start, I doubt we’ve seen the best of him yet.

1:50 Newbury

First up from Newbury is the 1:50 and it is the Group 3 John Porter Stakes ran over 1m4f.

The one I like is STOWELL (6/1) for the Gosden/Dettori combination. He obviously made an eye catching debut last season before winning his second start well. He then went to Royal Ascot and finished a fine third in the Queens Vase which is solid form. I’m happy to draw a line under his last run as it was too bad to be true. He’s been freshened up since and he strikes me as the type to get better with age.

2:04 Musselburgh

The 2:04 contest is the Silver Arrow handicap ran over the 7f trip.

I’ve landed on GIOIA CIECA (5/1) here for the shrewd Keith Dalglish operation. Top weight here but he likes to sit handily in his races which is beneficial around here. He ran a cracker to finish 4th not beaten far by Lord Of The Lodge at Newcastle on his final start last season. He’s only 4 so has more room for improvement than a lot of his rivals and he won well here at Musselburgh last season which is significant. Hopefully, he can run well on his seasonal reappearance.

2:25 Newbury

The 2:25 race from Newbury is one for the fillies over 7f, known as the Fred Darling Stakes.

The selection here is WILD BEAUTY (9/4) NAP. The duo of Charlie Appleby and William Buick can do very little wrong at present and I think Wild Beauty is the best of this lot. She comes up the best of this lot at the weights and already has a Group 1 win to her name from last season in Canada. This Group 3 should prove very winnable on all known form and it’s eye-catching that Appleby has her entered for the 1000 Guineas next month. That to me suggests she’s doing everything right at home.

2:39 Musselburgh

Next up is the 2:39 from Musselburgh and it is the Holyrood Handicap over the minimum 5f distance.

I’ve landed on RAASEL (7/2) here. A winner of his last five starts I think he has a fantastic chance of making it six. Michael Appleby, the trainer of the selection has been in good form this season and has won this race two from the last there years. Therefore, he knows what it takes to win this contest and I don’t think he’ll have left much to work on. I think he can continue that improvement this season.

3:00 Newbury

The 3:00 is more Group 3 action for punters to get their teeth into. It is the Greenham Stakes over 7f.

My selection here is PERFECT POWER (5/2) NB. The Group 1 Prix Morny winner of last season was one of the best 2 year-olds around from last season in my opinion. I am hopeful he will have trained on and it’s great to see Soumillon coming over to maintain the partnership. I think 7f will be fine for him and I think he has more speed than market rivals Angel Bleu which may prove crucial here.

3:14 Musselburgh

The 3:14 race is a comfortable handicap for the staying types. The Queens Cup ran over just shy of 1m6f.

I like ZERO TEN (7/2) here for Grand National winning trainer Emmet Mullins. He ran a decent race last time out over in France at Group 1 level arguably looking like the winner at one stage. Therefore, dropping back to handicap company he could be the class act in here and prove too good. He has to defy top weight but a promising 7lb claimed in De La Sayette takes the reigns and I think he’ll have to go close against this lot. Trip should be fine.

3:35 Newbury

The competitive Spring Cup Handicap finishes us off ran over the straight mile.

I’ve landed on IRISH ADMIRAL (8/1) EW for the Haggas team here. He ran a cracker when 4th in the Lincoln on his seasonal debut behind Johan. He wasn’t beat far that day and did finish ahead of favourite Rogue Bear albeit he was very unlucky. He’s a horse that has always promised much and maybe hasn’t had the run of the green. Trainer William Haggas reaches for cheekpieces and hopefully that can squeeze out some further improvement here. I think he’s a solid each-way bet in a wide-open contest.
