ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 29th October from Ascot and Wetherby

ITV Racing Tips

1:30 Ascot

The opener from Ascot is a handicap chase limited to novices over 2m3f.

I think GOSHEN (5/4) will make a winning debut over fences here. A previous winner here at Ascot over hurdles, he will obviously be well suited by going right handed here. Gary Moore has won this twice in recent years and I’m sure Goshen will have done plenty of schooling. He was never a bad jumper over hurdles, he is just a bit of a nutter. Fences may even help him who knows but he’s by far clear of these on pure talent and I think he will win.

1:50 Wetherby

The 1:50 from Wetherby is a novice Hurdle over an extended of 2m3f.

I like JOE DADANCER (5/2) NAP here. He fell at the last when miles clear on his only point to point start and the second that day still set the fastest time of the afternoon. That shows this horse is full of potential and the early market vibes have been encouraging. A lot of Ben Pauling’s horses have been running well and he’s managed to get a few in the winners enclosure which is positive. I think he’ll have him ready for this and he could be anything truth be told.

2:05 Ascot

The 2:05 from Ascot is the London Handicap Hurdle, a competitive renewal of the 2m contest.

It’s WASHINGTON (6/1) EW for me here. A really consistent sort who always seems to hit the frame at least. He’s won both seasonal debut starts and did win on career debut so fitness shouldn’t be a problem at all. He’s a strong traveller who will be well suited by the strong gallop he’ll get here and Olly Murphy has started the season in fine fettle which is promising. I think he’s overpriced at the moment.

2:25 Wetherby

The 2:25 from Wetherby is a mares Hurdle over 2m.

I’ll go with NINA THE TERRIER (7/2) here. The front two Molly Olly’s Wishes and Martello Sky set a decent standard but they have no improvement in them now and we know where they’re at. However, the same can’t be said for Nina The Terrier who is still relatively unexposed. She has had a nice pipe opener this season finishing second at Chepstow and I think she can kick on again now. Alan King is another trainer who’s started the season well and I think his horse is the value in this line-up.

2:40 Ascot

Next up is a trappy handicap over 2m1f with plenty of familiar names in the line-up.

It’s BEFORE MIDNIGHT (4/1) for me here. A winner on seasonal debut last season he followed up again here at Ascot on his second start. He’s well suited by the track as he likes to sit prominently and is a fluent jumper on a going day. Sam Thomas will have him spot on for this and this won’t be a prep for something else which may not be the case for some of his rivals. Sam Thomas did mention on The Nick Luck podcast earlier this week that he’s been trained with this in mind.

3:00 Wetherby

The 3:00 contest is the bet365 hurdle, a Grade 2 over 3m.

Not a strong selection and the hardest race of the day for me. I’ll chance rank outsider OSCAR ELITE (20/1) win only as I think he’s a very talented horse and may relish the return to hurdles. He was a decent novice hurdler and things just didn’t go quite to plan on his novice chase campaign last year. He ran at decent level however and he’s certainly got more improvement in him than his rivals. Any price over 20/1 is worth a small win bet.

3:15 Ascot

The final race from Ascot is the competitive London Gold Cup Handicap over 3m.

It’s OUR POWER (5/1) NB for me here. Another Sam Thomas horse that will have been targeted at this race. Thomas likes taken these competitive handicap chases of a Saturday and Our Power looks a really good horse. He ran a cracker in the Ultima at Cheltenham Festival on his latest start finishing 5th. He’s been dropped two pounds for that effort and this 3m trip is what he wants now. He’s another who’s ran well enough fresh in the past and it was also mentioned on the Luck podcast that he’s at fit as possible.

3:35 Wetherby

We end ITV’s coverage with the feature race of the day and it is a fascinating renewal of the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase over 3m.

A great race and although I like Ahoy Senor for the Gold Cup, I think BRAVEMANSGAME (6/4) will be better suited to todays test. A sharp enough 3m on quicker ground, he won’t lack for fitness and you can be sure Nicholls will have him ready. Ahoy Senor is a spring horse for me that will improve throughout the season. I think on the day he may just be a little rusty and that’ll be the difference.
