ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 2nd July from Haydock and Sandown
Saturday is here again and we have another round of ITV Racing tips from our tipster Henry. Sandown and Haydock feature this weekend.
There are seven lives races with the Coral Eclipse at Sandown the highlight of the day. Saturday’s win and each-way tips can be found below.
1:50 Sandown
The opener on ITV is the Group 3 Coral Charge over the 5f trip.
I like TIPPY TOES (17/2) EW here at a nice price. Draw in stall 2, hopefully she can bag the rail over a 5f course that often has plenty of hard luck stories. She was a good winner on her seasonal debut before missing the start at Haydock before finishing strongly for a never nearer 6th. She then went to Royal Ascot where she was well backed and unfortunately for connections she was hampered at a crucial stage. She was beaten less than 4l there so it wasn’t a bad effort at all. I think she’s the value in this.
2:05 Haydock
The first race from Haydock today is a wide-open handicap over 1m6f.
I’ve landed on DOUBLE CHERRY (5/1) EW here for the Tom Ward stable. He’s a real improving 3 year-old who was an impressive winner at Goodwood last time out where he beat the re-opposing Percy Jones by 3l. That was on soft ground so the ground today should prove ideal. Draw of stall 8 looks ideal and he likes to sit handy which could be crucial at Haydock today.
2:25 Sandown
The second race from Sandown is the Coral Challenge, a tricky handicap over the mile.
I think LION TOWER (6/1) EW is the solid one in this. A real improver for the Grant Tuer stable he looks sure to run his race. A winner last time out over 7f at York where he stayed on well to hang on. Handicaps at York are always competitive and this step back up to a mile will be no problem as he has strong form over this trip too. He likes to sit handy so there should be no hard luck stories and I think he’ll definitely hit the frame at the very least.
2:40 Haydock
The 2:40 race is the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks over 1m4f.
A tricky race but I’ll chance the rank outsider here NELL QUICKLY (14/1) EW. I don’t think she would be the outsider if she wasn’t trained by Denis Coakley, no disrespect intended. She won her last three starts last season and made a pleasing return to action this season finishing a good third behind Sea Le Rosa. She’s entitled to improve for that effort and I think her and the winner that day are pretty closely matched. Therefore, from a price perspective she’s worth a go as she certainly won’t lack for trying.
3:00 Sandown
The 3:00 is the Coral Distaff, a listed race over the 1m distance.
The favourite will be tough to beat here HEREDIA (5/4). A real improver who has won all her four career starts including a victory at Royal Ascot last time out. She just looks the best horse in the race with further improvement to come. As long as she gets a clear run, I expect her to pick these all off before moving up in class later in the season.
3:15 Haydock
The final contest from Haydock is the competitive handicap that is the Old Newton Cup, a race ran over 1m4f.
I like LIVERPOOL KNIGHT (17/2) EW here. A good winner at Windsor on his seasonal return, powering clear to win by over 3l at Windsor, he looks sure to kick on this season. The soft ground at Windsor was certainly a positive and he’s going to get plenty of cut again today. He has a lovely racing weight of 8’4 and the Kevin De Foy stable are having a real good season. Hopefully they can grab another Saturday big race win today.
3:35 Sandown
The final race is the feature of the day, a fascinating renewal of the Group 1 Coral Eclipse over 1m2f.
A great race but there is no guaranteed front runner, it reminds me of the Prince Of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot where State Of Rest won from the front setting his own fractions. I can see a similar result here but it’s trying to work out who will make the running. I think it may be ALENQUER (7/1) so he’s the one I’ve gone for. A gutsy winner at the Curragh at Group 1 level last time out, he battled all the way to the line to win by a neck. State Of Rest has obviously gave that win a big boost and if he gets to the front, it’ll take a good one to pass him if he goes steady.
