ITV Racing Tips for Wincanton, Doncaster and Aintree on Saturday 9th November
1:09 Wincanton
The first of five live races from Wincanton is a 5 runner handicap chase over 2m4f.
The one I like here is BEAU BALKO (3/1) for the Paul Nicholls stable. A progressive chaser last season, he got his just rewards when winning well at Musselburgh in February. He probably should have won again at Ayr in April but a bad mistake late on cost him. He’s returned to action at Kempton with a solid third and I’d expect him to come on bundles for it like a lot of the stable’s horses will do. I think this six year-old will enjoy this test.
1:20 Doncaster
The 1:20 from Doncaster is the listed Wentworth Stakes over 6f.
It’s ROOM SERVICE (5/2) for me here. Last seen finishing a never nearer second in a competitive handicap at York, this stiffer test over the 6f trip is a lot more his cup of tea. He is a previous course and distance winner and this 3 year-old is still unexposed in my opinion. I think he can improve past his rivals and land this for the Kevin Ryan stable.
1:30 Aintree
We head to Aintree for the 1:30, a Pertemps Hurdle qualifier over the extended 3 miles.
It’s BOLD ENDEAVOUR (6/1) for me. A decent dual performer over both hurdles and fences over the past few seasons, he’s well suited by either as long as he gets a decent surface. He should get that today. He ran a belter last season when finishing 4th in the final of the Pertemps at the Cheltenham Festival. He did run poor on his final two starts but that was after a long and tough campaign so I’m happy to forgive both efforts. He’s been freshened up since and now rejoins the Laura Morgan yard ahead of this new season. That’s no bad thing in my eyes and I think she’ll have him ready for this seasonal return.
1:45 Wincanton
Next up at Wincanton is a competitive mares handicap hurdle over the extended 2m5f.
It’s LARCHMONT LASS (7/1) I’ve landed on. A decent bumper horse two seasons back, he had a solid novice hurdles campaign last season with plenty of encouraging performances in similar handicaps. The interesting thing is that his best performance came here over this course and distance when winning well back in February. This is a meeting the Nicholls stable have always done well at so I think Larchmont Lass will be ready for this after having wind surgery over the summer.
2:05 Aintree
The 2:05 at Aintree is a trappy 2m handicap chase.
I was impressed with IMPERIAL SAINT (15/8) here at Aintree two weeks ago and I think he can defy a 4lb rise in the weights and land this contest. He jumped well and looked to have improved for a fence. He’ll do for me in a similar handicap here.
2:23 Wincanton
The Grade 2 Rising Novices Chase over 2m4f comes up at 2:23.
I’m sticking with the Paul Nicholls theme here and I like the chances of INSURRECTION (11/4). A progressive hurdler last season, I was highly encouraged by his Chase debut at Chepstow last month at listed when chasing home Springwell Bay with the re-opposing Boombawn back in third. He’ll come on for that effort and he has a fitness edge over his chief market rival Handstands here and that could prove crucial here.
2:40 Aintree
The 2:40 is our first look at the Grand National fences this season with the Grand Sefton Handicap Chase over 2m5f.
The way KING TURGEON (13/2) NAP won from the front at Chepstow on seasonal return, this test looks right up his street. A bold jumping front runner at the bottom of the weights looks ideal for this contest. I do think King Turgeon will really enjoy these National fences. The David Pipe team have history with them and the stable remain in rude form. I really like his chances in this.
2:55 Wincanton
The 2:55 from Wincanton is the Elite Hurdle and it’s a poor renewal with 3 runners set to go to post.
It is RUBAUD here who was a rare winner on seasonal return for the Nicholls yard. He won last year on seasonal return before going on to land this contest in decisive fashion. I am expecting the same here. Cobden will likely keep things simple out in front and prove tough to pass.
3:30 Wincanton
The final race on ITV from Wincanton is the 3:30. It is the competitive Badger Beer Handicap Chase over 3m1f.
I like LORD ACCORD (7/2) NB in this. Sneaking into this off 10’2, he has looked right back to his best in two starts this season. The first of those was a spin over hurdles where he won by 16 lengths. He then returned to fences here at Wincanton over this course and distance and again won by 16 lengths. He will enjoy this test and the Mulholland team can’t do a lot wrong at present. This looks to have been his prime target and I’d be expecting him to go very close here.
