Saturday’s ITV Racing Tips from Aintree & the Tingle Creek at Sandown

Racing jargon

1:30 Aintree

A trappy fillies juvenile hurdle over 2m begins proceedings on ITV this afternoon.

The one I’ve landed on is SIX FEET APART (15/2). An impressive winner on hurdles debut at Fairyhouse last time out where he picked up well to win by 2l. That experience will have done her the world of good and trainer Joseph O’Brien has an encouraging record with his juveniles over the last few years.

1:50 Sandown

It’s Grade 1 action next up as the 2 mile novices go to post in the Henry VIII Novices Chase.

I expect THIRD TIME LUCKI to win this. He’s 2 from 2 over fences and he appears to have relished the bigger obstacles on both occasions this season. He won both starts easily and I think he could put his rivals in difficulty if he put a similar round of jumping in round this demanding test of jumping at Sandown.

2:05 Aintree

The 2:05 from Aintree is a Grade 2 for the staying chasers over 3m named after the great Many Clouds.

The one for me here is IMPERIAL AURA NAP (3/1). He was travelling well and had jumped well in the main before coming down in the Grade 1 Betfair Chase and I’d expect him to go close dropped time Grade 2 level here. He can put his stamina to good use and won’t have any concerns with the soft ground. Trainer Kim Bailey has creeped into form and I think this lad can run a big one here.

2:25 Sandown

The 2:25 from Sandown is the famous Grade 1 Betfair Tingle Creek over 2m.

I like NUBE NEGRA (11/4) in this. I think The Skelton’s can complete a Grade 1 double here. Nube Negra was very impressive on his seasonal debut at Cheltenham where he bolted up and powered up the hill. He’ll have a fitness edge over Chacun Pour Soi here. I’m happy to forgive his run behind the favourite last season as he’d had a hard race at Cheltenham where he arguably should have won the Queen Mother. I think he’ll travel into the race well here at Sandown and hopefully he’ll go past his rivals as they jump the last before going clear. I’d expect Skelton to play him as late as possible.

2:40 Aintree

The 2:40 from Aintree is the Becher Handicap Chase over 3m2f ran over the Grand National fences.

I like ACHILLE EW (9/1) here for the red hot stable that is Venetia Williams. This horse has really strong consistent form in staying chasers over the last 12 months and I think this unique test will suit him well. He’s a bold front running jumper that will hopefully get into a nice jumping rhythm out in front. He won’t lack for stamina if he’s in the picture turning for home.

3:00 Sandown

The 3:00 from Sandown is an extreme test of stamina. The London National Handicap Chase over 3m5f.

The one for me here is DEISE ABA NB (11/4). He was very unlucky not to win last time out at Aintree where he was only beaten a head. The Phillip Hobbs stable continue on in fine form which included another winner here at Sandown yesterday. Deise Aba is 2 from 2 here at Sandown and seems to love it here.

3:15 Aintree

The last race from Aintree is a wide open handicap hurdle over the intermediate trip Of 2m4f.

The selection here is STRAW FAN JACK EW (12/1). He made a pleasing comeback when finishing second under top weight at Cheltenham at the Open Meeting. He finished mid-division in the Greatwood Hurdle last time out and I think things where just happening too quick for him there. He won here at Aintree by 30l when running here and that was on similar soft ground. Hopefully he can bounce back to form here at a lovely price.

3.35 Sandown

The final race on ITV is the December Handicap Hurdle over the 2m trip.

I like ZAMBEZI FIX EW (8/1) here. A consistent sort last season he looked like the likely winner on his seasonal return at Ffos Las when coming down 3 out. He has a lovely racing weight of 10’3 for this contest and hopefully compensation awaits.
