Tom Segal’s Cheltenham Festival 2021 Tips – Pricewise has a 12/1 NAP and is sweet on a Gold Cup runner
One of the best tipsters in horse racing is Tom Segal, and he recently spoke to the Racing Post podcast to give some of his 2021 Cheltenham tips ahead of the fantastic four days of racing in mid-March.
This is the second part of the series and you can also see Patrick Mullins’s Cheltenham tips from last week’s episode where he ran through the Champion Hurdle, Stayers Hurdle and Mares Hurdle as well as some of his other fancies for the week.
Tom Segal is one of the best tipsters around and he already has some ante-post selections in his Racing Post column, but his latest selections include the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle, the Brown A
He also had a quick look back at this weekend’s action and Champ and Goshen caught his eye. Segal was really impressed with Goshen and he calls him a ‘big threat’ to Honeysuckle.
Soaring Glory also got a mention and he could be one to take on Appreciate It with if the ground is good or better in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle Tip (1.20pm Day 2)
“It’s hard to find one from left field”. Segal is unsure about Gaillard Du Mesnil and would have Bob Olinger ahead of him in the betting given the better form. Bravemansgame also gets a big mention after a 20 length win at Newbury and Pricewise called him “very dangerous” after being impressive in the Challow Hurdle. The only horse to beat him over hurdles is Soaring Glory.
Bravemansgame would be the biggest hope of the Paul Nicholl’s Cheltenham runners in his opinion, but Tom Segal lands on the side of Bob Olinger for this one.
“I think he’s got the star quality that the other two don’t have”.
He also answers the question of who is overpriced and underpriced. He thinks Gaillard Du Mensil is underpriced and Duffle Coat for Gordon Elliot is overpriced, however, he advised caution as the horse has had a set back.
The last point he makes is that the juvenile form is very strong, with a 7lb swing at the weights making Duffle Coat appeal if he runs.
BOB OLINGER TO WIN: 9/2 with bet365.
DUFFLE COAT EACH-WAY: 25/1 with Paddy Power (non-runner no bet)

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase Tip (1.55pm Day 2)
Monkfish is the odds on favourite for this race and Tom Segal says he thought “he was brilliant at the Dublin Racing Festival” and “he’s been beating the same horse (Latest Exhibition)”.
Segal continues: “Do I think he will win? Yes I do”, “Would I back him at odds on? No”. He’s a good jumper but has pace too, his Albert Bartlett win was impressive and Tom Segal cannot find any faults in him. The ground at Cheltenham looks set to be much quicker which would be a new test.
As an each-way bet, Tom Segal would put up Eklat De Rire. He says the Henry De Bromhead inmate is a brilliant jumper and he’s done nothing wrong. He stays strongly but questions whether he’s taking on one that is too good for him.
EKLAT DE RIRE: 14/1 with bet365.
Queen Mother Champion Chase Tip (3.05pm Day 2)
Chacum Pour Soi is the odds on favourite for this race but Tom Segal thinks he will have to get away from the field because he’s not sure he will find much off the bridle.
Tom says he could be a different class to them but there could be plenty in there to give him a race. The likes of First Flow (excellent at Ascot and right up there in the formbook but might want to go right handed), Nube Negra jumped brilliantly at Kempton but the question is whether Cheltenham is his track.
He also wouldn’t rule out Altior despite the trend that no 11 year old has won the race. He’s never been neaten at Cheltenham and he will be strong up the hill.
Pricewise’s selections for the Champion Chase are Altior and Nube Negra, who he has backed ante-post and he thinks “they have a good chance of turning over the favourite”.
NUBE NEGRA EACH-WAY: 9/1 with Paddy Power (NRNB)
ALTIOR EACH-WAY: 7/1 with Paddy Power (NRNB)
Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.05pm Day 4)
The big race of the week is the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Tom Segal’s tip here is A Plus Tard. He says he loves the horse and points out that he is the only horse to beat Chacun Pour Soi.
“I love him. I just think he’s got rock-solid top class form and I think there’s more to come from him”. Segal thinks he will improve for the trip and he is against Al Boum Photo given the form of th race 12 months ago.
If he wins it will be a good weel for Pricewise, whatever happens elsewhere. He seems very sweet on the horse.
A PLUS TARD TO WIN: 6/1 with Betfred (NRNB)

Tom Segal’s Cheltenham NAP
He is against Appreciate It so he is with Soaring Glory in this one. At a price, Soaring Glory is Tom Segal’s NAP of the week at odds of 12/1.
SOARING GLORY – 12/1 with bet365.
