York Tips 2024 – Day 1 Betting Tips and Preview from the Ebor Festival

Day 1 betting tips and previews for the live ITV Races from the 2024 York Ebor meeting on Wednesday 21st August. 

We have picked out the five best bets from day 1 of the Ebor Festival including a NAP and NB with the action getting underway on ITV Racing at 1.50pm

 

1:50 York

The opener on Day 1 of the Ebor meeting is a wide-open handicap over the extended 5 furlong trip.

I like JM JUNGLE (10/1) EW here who is often seen to best effect over this course and distance. The Quinn stable have been a little quiet this season but appeared to have turned a corner in recent weeks which is encouraging. Low stalls and prominent races are often favoured in sprints here and that’s the combination JM Jungle has. He’ll enjoy this quick surface as he showed when finishing 3rd in this race last year. He’s 4lb lower this year and I’d expect a bold bid.

 

2:25 York

The second race of the afternoon is the Group 3 Acomb Stakes. A 2 year-old contest over 7f.

It’s hard to get away from RULING COURT (11/10) NAP here who was a very impressive winner on debut at Sandown last month. He was obviously well fancied by connections that day suggesting they were confident they had a good one on their hands. He is entitled to improve for that experience and he sets a high standard here. Tough to beat.

 

3:00 York

Next up we have the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes over 1m4f.

I think KINGS GAMBIT (9/4) NB is the one to be with here. The progressive 3 year-old of the Charlton stable looks sure to relish this step up in trip based on his last two efforts. He was an unlucky loser in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot before running Alflaila close last time out at York. That horse goes for the Group 1 Juddmonte at 3:35. I just don’t think we’ve seen the best of Kings Gambit yet and this race could set up nicely for him with Los Angeles likely to try and make all.

 

3:35 York

The feature is the 3:35, the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes over extended 1m2f.

I think MALJOOM (28/1) EW is the best bet in this race. City Of Troy will take a fair bit of beating if he runs to the level expected but at the prices, I’d be happy to let him go and win. Maljoom is a consistent sort who is improving for every outing this year. He ran a cracker in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot where he was a fast finishing third. He then went to the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and only found Notable Speech too good on that occasion. I’m adamant he wants a step up in trip and he gets that today. If that brings out the improvement I’d expect, he can go close to hitting the frame at the very least.

 

4:10 York

The 4:10 is a trappy stayers handicap over the extended 2 miles.

I like DIVINE COMEDY (7/1) EW here for the Harry Eustace stable. She always seems to run her race, she has found further improvement this season as shown when she was a good winner at Haydock in May two starts ago. She then went to Royal Ascot and ran a cracker in the Ascot Stakes finishing a good second behind Pledgeofalliance with the front two over 2 lengths clear of the third. She has now been freshened up since that run and I think she can go continue on an upward trajectory and go close here.
