Reasons for Thursday’s MLS Betting Tips

These midweek games are selected from a five-strong MLS fixture list:

 

Minnesota vs Colorado Rapids – Minnesota Win

Whilst all MLS teams have a strong home advantage, Minnesota take this to extremes. They’ve taken 19 points from a possible 24 at home recently, and the Loons arrive here in excellent form. They are averaging 2.13 points per game (across the last eight matches), which is one of the strongest returns in the division. On Wednesday night/Thursday morning, they host a Colorado Rapids, who have had a mixed season so far. They have the third worst away form in the league, and possess the second most porous defence in the MLS (which is saying something…) The Rapids did win this fixture earlier in the season, but that was on their own patch, and this will be much tougher for them. Minnesota have conceded just nine home goals all campaign, and although the Rapids come off the back of a victory, they might find it tough to break down the hosts.

Portland Timbers vs Chicago Fire – Portland Timbers Win

The Timbers are in sensational form coming into this fixture. They’ve averaged 1.48 points per game all season, but that increases to 2.13 points over the last eight games. Their sole defeat during that period came at Minnesota, which is an incredibly tough place to go. Timber Joey has been very busy recently with Portland netting ten times in their last four home matches, and the home fans should be able to enjoy a little more joy on Wednesday night. The Fire have been dwindling at the bottom of the standings for quite some time, but they finally appear to have found some form. They did win on the road recently, although that came against out-of-form Houston Dynamo (who currently have the worst record over the last eight games). They followed it up with a 3-2 victory over Montreal Impact at the weekend, but they required an 88th minute winner to secure all three points. The Fire have taken just two points from their last three visits to this ground, and they could struggle in this one.

 

Real Salt Lake vs Seattle Sounders – Over 2.5 Goals/Both Teams to Score

Real Salt Lake are in excellent form, but they’ve dispensed with manager Mike Petke this week. The dismissal isn’t form related, and is owing to an internal investigation however. Assistant Fredd Juarez takes over, and has been managing the club for the last fortnight following Petke’s initial suspension. It shouldn’t make too much difference to the way they approach this one. RSL are one of the strongest home sides in the divison, and they have won four of their last five matches at the Rio Tinto. They’ve scored 11 goals in their last five matches here, and they should offer plenty of firepower here. The Sounders are not at their best at the moment, but they are scoring goals. They have netted five times in their last two matches, but conceded six. This bet would have landed in four of the last six away matches for the Sounders. They have a terrible record at this stadium, but they should be able to find the back of the net at least.
