Three weeks ago, AC Milan would have been the pick in this game, but their form has badly tailed off, and it is hard to trust a side who have the tendency to implode so easily. Lazio’s form has been far from convincing, and they only managed to scrape a 2-2 draw last time out at the Stadio Olimpico. Both sides are feeling the pressure of their supporters, but neither seem to be coping with it particularly well.

This tie usually ends all-square, and neither of these two sides can be trusted on current form.

Just when things are ticking along nicely, AC Milan always seem to plunge into a crisis. Whilst they are still on track to finish in the European spots, there is plenty of competition in Serie A this season, and it’s a terrible time to lose form. Having said that, they’ve come up against runaway leaders Juventus, rejuvinated Udinese and city rivals Inter in their winless run, so it’s not all doom and gloom.

Lazio just aren’t firing on all cylinders at the moment. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what is wrong with Simone Inzaghi’s side at the moment. After a shock midweek defeat to SPAL, they were unable to bounce back, and required a 95th minute equaliser and a controversial penalty to take something from the game. Despite that, Inzaghi seemed pleased with his side’s performance, but they looked ragged at the back, and they can’t defend like that against a side of AC Milan’s quality.

Neither side convince me at the back although Lazio do occasionally pull off a defensive masterclass on the road. Their 1-0 win vs Inter Milan was sandwiched in between defeats to Genoa and SPAL, in which they conceded three goals. Their a curious sort, but with Piatek still banging in the goals, a clean sheet may not be possible here.

After keeping seven clean sheets in eleven, AC Milan have started conceding again, and they are coming up against a lively Lazio frontline. The goals that they have conceded have largely come against Inter and Juventus, but they were unable to keep Udinese and Sampdoria off the score-sheet as well.

I actually think the 1-1 draw is a real play in this one. Neither side will want to lose this one, and Gennaro Gattusso has labelled this a “a must not lose” game.

We’ve already mentioned him, but Krzysztof Piatek is still in tremendous form, and his goalscoring exploits are showing no signs of slowing down. He has to rank as one of the best signings of the January transfer window, and he’s clearly enjoying all of the service he’s receiving from his team-mates.

Across two clubs and in all competitions, he’s on 31 goals, and he could stride towards the 40-goal mark in this fixture. He’s scored AC Milan’s last two Serie A goals, and he always looks a threat. His movement and finishing ability mean that he is always a decent bet in any match.

It’s concerning to think where the Rossoneri would be without his goals this season, and I think he can give Lazio plenty of problems here.

AC Milan vs Lazio Match Prediction – Draw @ 15/8 with Bet Victor

There is rarely much between these two sides when they meet, and each of the last four fixtures have ended all square. I realise that all h2h records have to come to an end at some point, but neither side are playing well enough at this moment in time to receive my support in the outright market.

There’s also an element of both sides hoping to avoid defeat here. A draw would keep AC Milan’s three point advantage in tact, whilst Lazio will be aiming to get one of their hardest away games out of the way without suffering a second consecutive defeat on the road.

I’m still not convinced that Ciro Immobile is 100% fit, whilst AC Milan are not without their injury problems as well.
