Aston Villa v West Brom betting tips and predictions for tonight’s Premier League match live on BT Sport.
With a full schedule of midweek Premier League action on the cards, suddenly this week doesn't seem so bad afterall. First up tonight is the West Midlands Derby between Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion and here are our free football betting tips.
Whichever way you look at it, Aston Villa are in huge trouble at the bottom of the Premier League. Having only managed two goals in their last ten matches and losing their last seven on the trot, The Villains now sit 19th and even the appointment of Tim Sherwood has yet to give the club a lift. Perhaps the most worrying aspect for fans, though, is the alarming slump in the form of Christian Benteke. Only a season ago the Belgian was lauded as a 30 million pound player, now he'd be lucky to fetch a tube of Pringles.
As with other clubs in the relegation zone, there are chinks of light which can breathe optimism. QPR have a decent home record, Leicester City play some exciting football, but I'm really struggling to find something positive to say about the Birmingham side. However, with such a young team, Villa have a decent manager who is likely to get the best out of them. Furthermore, on their day, a front three of Christian Benteke, Scott Sinclair and Gabriel Agbonlahor does have the potential to cause teams problems, especially on the break.
Opponents West Brom were also enduring a sticky patch themselves up until the appointment of Tony Pulis. The Welshman has worked his usual magic on the training field and The Baggies defence has turned about as stingy as Duncan Bannatyne. With three clean sheets on the bounce and seven points to show for it, West Brom now sit comfortably in 13th place in the table with eight points separating themselves from the relegation zone. It's not exactly 'sexy' football and he's never going to win the Champions League playing it. You have to hand it to the man though, whatever he does, it works.
Unsurprisingly the odds for Tuesday's clash have very little to choose between the two teams. Being the home side, Villa are slight favourites at a best price of 17/10. West Brom can be backed at 21/10, with the draw on offer at 11/5.
Based on the statistics, this match should be a nailed on draw, and probably a goalless one at that. Aston Villa have scored the fewest goals at home this season and West Brom the least away. The sides are also the worst in the league for a both teams scoring ratio as well. However, my gut instinct is that Tim Sherwood's men could sneak it.
Surely things cannot get any worse at Villa Park, and if the former Tottenham man can't rally his troops for a derby, there is surely no hope for them. With this in mind, back Aston Villa to win at 17/10 with Bet Victor and we are predicting a correct scoreline of 2-0 with Betfred at 10/1. The bookmaker will refund your stake in the event of a 1-1 draw which offers some decent insurance for a potentially rewarding bet.
Finally for a bit of a longshot and there's an interesting statistic surrounding West Brom defender Joleon Lescott. The former Wolves man has scored five career goals against Aston Villa which is by far and away his highest percentage. The Baggies also have the best goals from set-piece ratio in the division as well. At a whopping 16/1 with Bet365, back Lescott to score anytime in the match for our last Aston Villa v West Brom prediction.
