Aston Villa vs Stoke City Predictions and Betting Tips
Both of these teams will be feeling slightly relieved to be mid-table after inconsistent seasons for the two of them. They both sit on 34 points and are surely won’t be involved in an relegation six-pointers from now on. Villa will be feeling confident after defeating title chasing Chelsea last weekend, while Stoke were impressive in a 3-1 victory over West Ham and can count Arsenal as one of their recent conquests.
Erling Haaland’s odds to be Premier League top goalscorer.
Neither team is renowned for scoring a huge amount of goals and I can see a low amount in the game. While it is well stated by now that Villa can’t use their counter attacking skills at home as much as they do on away days, I just can’t back Stoke to win due to their record of winning zero of their last thirteen away games when looking for football betting tips on the match. They also haven’t scored in six of their last nine on the road, so if they want to get a result, they have a very thin margin of error defensively.
However, I think a draw is within reach for them, mainly due to the history of their meetings with the Villains. In eight total games between the teams, five have ended in stalemate, while four out of the five games at Villa Park have ended in the same way. Add to the fact that with both teams easing themselves away from the drop zone, I doubt that the managers will risk it all for the win. That’s all good enough for me to back the draw at 23/10 with Bet365 for my first prediction.
If Stoke score there is a good chance that it will happen in the first 15 minutes; Villa have conceded 8 goals in that time frame this season. Therefore I’m looking at a Potteries player on the First Goalscorer list, and while Stoke haven’t scored many headed goals this season (2), watch out for a Peter Crouch knockdown to a finisher like Peter Odemwingie (9/1 Paddy Power), who’s shown himself to be adapting to his new team in the last few weeks.
As for Villa, Christian Benteke is the obvious name to pick out, though he’ll have a fair old battle with Huth and Shawcross. For this match I like the trickery of Andreas Weimann to cause a few problems and he could be the one to deliver a point for the home team. (3/1 anytime), but if you go along with me and think that it will be the equaliser in a 1-1 draw, be brave and back the Austrian as Last Goalscorer at 6/1 at Bet365.
