Aston Villa vs West Brom predictions and betting tips for this first leg of this Championship play-off semi-final on Saturday 11th May. Aston Villa vs West Brom Betting Tips

Both of these Midlands rivals signed off with a defeat, but each of these high-flying outfits can be forgiven for having one eye on the play-offs. Until Norwich’s 2-1 victory at this ground six days ago, West Brom were the last side to leave with maximum points, and they’ll be hoping to head back to the Hawthornes with a precious lead.

Villa’s mid-season transformation was remarkable under Dean Smith, and they are understandably the favourites for this two-legged affair. The former Walsall-man has allowed his side to play with more freedom, and he has unlocked the potential in a number of key players.

Following their mid-season blip, they put together a memorable sequence of ten consecutive victories, and the arrival of Tyrone Mings also helped them tighten up at the back. Only Norwich, and today’s opponents have scored more goals than the Villains this season, and with Tammy Abraham supposedly returning to the squad today, they should create plenty of chances once again.

61% of their goals have arrived here at Villa Park this season, and it would be a surprise if they failed to hit the target in this encounter.

It’s been a funny old season for West Brom, who are still under the stewardship of James Shan. The interim boss has overseen a significant improvement in the club’s home form, but that has largely been at the expense of their away form. His first game came in mid-March, and since then, they’ve lost three of their last five away games, and also drawn with relegation-threatened Reading.

The Baggies may have the slight psychological advantage, but they’ve been far from convincing on their travels in recent weeks. Villa should be able to take a lead into the second leg.

Aston Villa vs West Brom Anytime Goalscorer Prediction

There are any number of players on the pitch who could be backed in this market. Jack Grealish enjoys scoring against Midlands/East Midlands opponents with two goals against Birmingham, and another against Derby to his name already this season, but it’s Tammy Abraham’s record at Villa Park which catches the eye.

The striker returns from a lay-off, and should feature in this game. He may not have found the net against WBA when they met earlier in the season, but he’s netted in 11 of his last 13 home matches, and at 5/4 looks like the best man to find the back of the net once again.

Tammy Abraham is the second of our Aston Villa vs West Brom betting tips, and he is 5/4 to score anytime with Bet Victor. New customers can get £40 of free bets to use on the EFL Play-Offs this weekend.

Aston Villa vs West Brom Betting Tips

First leg play-off encounters are traditionally cagey affairs, and goals are often scarce. However, it’s hard to imagine these two sides playing out a low-scoring 90 minutes. These two sides scored 169 goals between them during the course of the season, whilst Villa’s home matches have averaged 3.74 goals per game this season.

Only five sides have been involved in higher-scoring matches on their travels than WBA, and with so many talented players on the pitch, a 0-0 draw is highly unlikely.

13 of Villa’s last 15 home matches have seen Over 2.5 Goals land for punters, and it’s a decent price to pay-out once more.

Over 2.5 Goals is a very tempting Evens with Coral, and looks a standout pick for this Championship play-off game.
