Barcelona vs Sevilla predictions and betting tips for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg at the Nou Camp. For Sevilla, it’s a simple equation: avoid defeat in northern Spain and they are guaranteed to be in the last four of the competition.
A trip to Barcelona, though, is never an easy task – as Sevilla themselves know all too well. The visitors have not won at the home of the Catalan giants since 2010, so you’d be a brave person to back them to do so here.
Barcelona had to overcome a deficit against Levante in the previous round so this situation is far from new territory. The problem for Ernesto Valverde’s men is that they are no strangers to conceding at the moment. Losing a goal in this match could make the chances of progression very slim indeed, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone who has watched Barca recently.
It’s incredibly likely that the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will be recalled to the starting line-up following their omission last week, which means the home side will be well-stocked with the necessary firepower to see them reach the semis. For me, both teams to score looks absolutely nailed on for my Barcelona vs Sevilla predictions and I won’t be turning my nose up at the 4/5 currently available.
There’s very rarely any value in backing Lionel Messi to score anytime and generally that’s also the case for Luis Suarez. Most expect the Uruguayan to line up alongside his Argentinian compatriot – possibly with new recruit Kevin-Prince Boateng completing the front three. It is Suarez who catches my eye here most, however, based on a combination of goal scoring potency and available price. He’s 10/11 to bag at some stage on Wednesday night.
Barcelona are no strangers to having to come from behind and many football fans will fondly recall the amazing 6-1 win over PSG in the 2016-17 Champions League. They overcame a 4-0 deficit to get through that night and a similar score line here would see them absolutely sail through. I think it’ll be closer, but not by much! As stated, I see the home side shipping a goal at some stage but it’s also very likely that they’ll stick a few in at the other end. 18/1 on a 4-1 home win may look skinnier than some expect, but it looks more than feasible.
Barcelona to win – 2/7
Draw – 5/1
Sevilla to win – 11/1
Last week’s encounter at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium means this one is nicely poised from the point of view of the neutral. Dare I say there’s a hint of inevitability about Barcelona staring down the barrel only to escape trouble in the dying embers, although I don’t want to tempt fate!
The home side have won the last four Copa del Rey trophies – ironically beating Sevilla in the final on two of those occasions – so what better incentive for the visitors to turn up and cause an upset?
