Blackpool vs Bristol Rovers Preview
It’s been a busy summer by the seaside, with Blackpool FC getting a new owner ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign. Simon Sadler takes over from the despicable Oyston family, and he’s already started to move the club forward. He’s moved quickly to appoint Simon Grayson, with the returning boss replacing the outgoing Terry McPhillips in the dugout. Grayson has added to his squad with the likes of Jamie Devitt, Ryan Hardie and Ryan Edwards all arriving at Bloomfield Road, and they’ll be joined by a potentially exciting addition in Sully KaiKai. They’ve had a mixed pre-season, and Grayson will need to settle on his best starting XI for this opening fixture. The Tangerines weren’t far off the play-offs last season, and if they can iron out some of those inconsistencies, they’ll should be up there once again. There should be a terrific atmosphere around the place this weekend, with many fans returning to Bloomfield Road for the first time in many years. Season ticket sales have been impressive, and the fans will be looking to create a carnival atmosphere around the place.

Bristol Rovers dispensed with Darrell Clarke last season, and he was replaced by Graham Coughlan. It was a fairly low-key performance, but it seemed to do the job. The Gas stayed up with relative ease, and thanks to the goals of Jonson Clarke-Harris, they ended up nestled in the safety of mid-table. The striker has remained at the club, and he has been joined by a number of new recruits. Tom Davis and Luke Leahy undoubtedly improve the defence, loanees Tyler Smith and Victor Adeboyejo could be exciting to watch at this level. Rovers’ midfielder perhaps look a little light on numbers, and although Chris Lines and Stuart Sinclair won’t be overly missed, they could still do with one or two additions in this area. Rovers had a very solid end to the campaign, and under Coughlan, they were incredibly tough to beat. They lost just one away game in 2019 (vs Doncaster), and I expect them to set up in a similar manner once again.
Blackpool vs Bristol Rovers Betting Tips
Understandably, Blackpool have been priced up as the favourites for this home fixture, and with the fans behind them, they should be on the front foot for the majority of this contest. However, Rovers are incredibly tough to beat, and they have suffered just a single loss on the road since December 15th. They came and won 3-0 here last season, and although I don’t expect them to romp home with all of the points once again, they should get something from this clash. Blackpool have failed to score in three of their last four meetings against these opponents, and Bristol Rovers are quickly becoming a bit of a bogey team for the seasiders.
I expect very little between these two teams, and backing the draw looks wise.
1-0 Blackpool is the shortest price in the correct score market, but it’s best to opt for a 1-1 draw. Eight of Bristol Rovers’ away games last season ended 0-0 or 1-1, and I expect a similarly low-scoring game once more. The bookies price Under 2.5 Goals at a paltry 13/20, therefore backing a 1-1 draw gives us added value.
