Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid Preview and Betting Tips
The second Champions League semi-final takes place tonight as Borussia Dortmund play Real Madrid at the Signal-Iduna-Park looking to follow in the footsteps of German counterparts Bayern Munich.
After Bayern Munich’s demolition of Barcelona last night Dortmund will fancy their chances against tonight’s Spanish opposition but Jose Mourinho could take a giant step to winning his third Champions League title with a positive result here.
Dortmund are the only unbeaten team left in this seasons competition and have already beaten Real Madrid in this season’s group stages with a 2-1 home victory. They have won all five home matches so far including a thrilling victory against Malaga when they needed two injury time goals to progress, and got them.
Real Madrid conceded the La Liga title months ago and Mourinho has had all his eggs in the basket marked Champions League for most of the season. Their form on paper is nowhere near that of tonight’s opponents. Away from home in the group stages they lost in this fixture, drew in the return leg and beat Ajax before a rather fortunate 2-1 at Old Trafford against Manchester United. In the last round they almost did the unthinkable and threw away a 3-0 first leg lead, eventually losing 3-2 in Galatasaray with a couple of goals from Cristiano Ronaldo. There is every reason to put a line through that match, just like we did with Bayern Munich’s home defeat to Arsenal when the tie was already won.
Looking at the betting tonight with the Unibet free bet up for grabs, it is difficult to predict a winner and that normally means the draw is the best bet. Real Madrid would be happy with that result as long as they can score once, maybe even twice.
The attacking threat of both sides cannot be ignored and we are spoilt for choice on the goalscorer markets but Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund is a bit of value to score anytime in the match at 5/2 with Ladbrokes. He has scored in his last two including a vital goal in the 3-2 win against Malaga.
Dortmund will want to keep it tight in the early stages and we could see a cagey start to the match. Four of their five home Champions League matches to far this season have gone into half time level, so back the half-time draw at 11/8 with Bet Victor.
