The German champions claimed a 2-2 draw when these two sides met three weeks ago, with two away goals expect the Ukrainians to come out all guns blazing in a game where they need to win.
Dortmund has been priced up as favourites for this game after Mats Hummels’ 87th minute equaliser in the Donbass Arena three weeks ago.
Shakhtar should come into this game fresh after their winter break; they played their first league game on Friday since 30th November in which they won 4-1. They have of course played plenty of friendly games during this break making sure they remain match fit ready for this competition. They are absolutely storming the Vyscha Liga this year with a thirteen point gap between them and second placed Dnipro. In 19 league games they have won 18 and lost just 1 so the draw three weeks ago was something the Shakhtar fans are not used to! They are averaging nearly 3 goals a game in their domestic league and they have scored 22 times in 11 games in away Champions League matches. I fully expect them to score at least one goal in this game. Total away goals over 1.5 can be backed at 5/2 with Coral which has a great chance given the Ukrainians attacking threat. Douglas Costa who scored three weeks ago also got on the score sheet on Friday night and at 11/2 to score anytime this maybe worth looking at. They also have Eduardo (5/1), Adriano (7/2) and Mkhitaryan (3/1) who have all found the net regularly this season.
Dortmund have already beat Manchester City, Real Madrid and Ajax at home this season and they will fancy their chances to progress to the semi final after the draw in the Ukraine. They are sitting 2nd in the Bundesliga behind the run away German machine that is Bayern. They have won 7 games at home this season domesticly out of 12. They won their last league game 3-1 with Lewandowski scoring twice to go with his goal he scored in the first leg it looks like the big Pole is bang in form. He is Evens with StanJames to score anytime. Also worth looking at is Marco Reus at 11/8 who scored a hat trick recently and Mario Gotze at 15/8. Dortmund has a good record after they have drawn a first away leg in European competitions going through 6 times out of 7. Having said that Shakhtar have won on their last two visits in Germany.
Tough one to call this, I think the goals market is the safer option.
Dortmund’s last 6 home games have gone over 1.5 first half goals and with Shakhtar’s attack threat I’m going with the 6/4 on offer from Coral.
Lewandowski anytime scorer – Evens Stan James
Douglas Costa anytime scorer – 11/2 Coral
