Bournemouth vs Sheffield United Preview

Bournemouth will be playing their fifth consecutive season in the top-flight having firmly established themselves as a Premier League side. Eddie Howe has done a remarkable job, with The Cherries rarely looking over their shoulder in the league standings. The South coast club have done phenomenally well to keep their star players from last season, with Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Nathan Aké all being linked with moves away from the Vitality.

The 2018/19 campaign started well for Bournemouth, with a comfortable 2-0 win over 2017/18 Championship runners-up Cardiff. Once again, The Cherries kick-off against the previous season’s second-place Championship side.

Sheffield United will end their 12-year absence from the Premier League when they make the long trip down south. Their defensive record last season was the joined best in the division, and they’ll be looking to restrict Bournemouth on the opening day. The Blades innovative tactical set up involves overlapping centre backs, which worked well in the second tier, but is untested at the highest level.

Bournemouth vs Sheffield United Betting Tips

Bournemouth have the stronger team and should run out victorious at home. Their strength lies firmly in attack and new signings, Harry Wilson and Philip Billing, only strengthen their options. The Blades have acquired new attacking recruits in the form of Callum Robinson, Ollie McBurnie, Ravel Morrison, Luke Freeman and former Cherry, Lys Mousset.

Having conceded in 11 of their final 14 games, including losses to now-relegated Fulham and Cardiff, Bournemouth look vulnerable to conceding once more. Their record against newly-promoted sides was rather poor last year, with just two wins from six. We’re backing both teams to score at 7/10.

Bournemouth got off to a fast start last time out and we think they’ll grab a narrow win despite conceding. 2-1 is priced nicely at 7/1 and is our pick for this game.
