The first piece of Silverware is decided on Sunday as two of the more unlikely teams contest the Capital One Cup final at Wembley.
Swansea are the clear and obvious favourite at odds of 2/5 with practically every bookmaker including William Hill. Bradford are the underdogs at a best price of 46/5 with Pinnacle, and a draw at 90 minutes can be backed at 93/23, again with Pinnacle.
Everybody is aware of how much Bradford have upset the odds to get to the final, but for those not keeping score, they have already beaten Wigan, Arsenal and Aston Villa to get where they are. However, their incredible cup run masks a run of form which has seen them win a single league game this year, and they currently have a single win from their last seven in all competitions. Swansea rested many of their first team players against Liverpool last weekend, yielding spectacular results as they were trashed 5-0. Swansea have in fact failed to score in four of their last five games, the exception being their now bi-annual trashing of QPR.
As much as i’d like the romanticism of a Bradford win here, i just can’t see it happening. You could have probably said that on all four occasions that they came up against Premier League opposition this season (remember, Villa twice…) but I just feel that at Wembley the occasion may get the better of them. This may also be Swansea’s first major cup final, but they have players that play on a bigger stage week in week out, and in Michael Laudrup they have a manger whom has done it all and will not be fazed by the occasion.
With Swansea the natural massive favourites (it is customary in these situations to point out that they sit 71 places higher in the league than Bradford…) you’re not going to win much on the straight win. But you can get better than evens on Swansea winning at both half time and full time (11/10 with Stan James) and i think that represents value. (If you want even better value, 1-0 Swansea at HT is available at 12/5 with Paddy Power). I don’t think that Swansea will have it all their own way though, i expect Bradford to score, probably a header from a corner, one of their great strengths. Taking this into account, a Swansea win with both teams to score is available at 12/5 with Ladbrokes, and this would probably be my NAP for the tournament.
Short Odds: HT/FT Swansea/Swansea @ 11/10 (Stan James)
Medium Odds: Swansea win with both Teams to score @ 12/5 (Ladbrokes)
Long Odds: Correct Score 3-1 Swansea @ 12/1 (Bet Victor)
