Kick-off time: 01.30
Date: Saturday 15th June 2019
Competition: Copa America
Venue: Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo (Morumbi) (São Paulo)
The hosts couldn’t have asked for a much easier opening fixture for the 2019 Copa America but they will still need to get the job done in Sao Paulo. The big news ahead of the tournament was the injury to Neymar which means he isn’t in the squad, however the riches of talent at Tite’s disposal, and home advantage, means Brazil are the favourites to win the Copa America.
Bolivia are in poor form coming into the tournament and they won’t have altitude on their side like they do when they play home matches thousands of feet above sea level. Their last three warm up matches have all ended in defeat and it’s hard to give them any chance at all in this game.
The obvious big news coming out of the camp is the injury to Neymar, but with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino in the squad, it is hard to see the Brazilian’s struggling for goals in the tournament. It is expected that either Everton’s Richarlison or David Neres will replace Neymar on the wing with the Selecao relying on Coutinho to pull the strings in an attacking line-up.
Brazil have been impressive since the disappointment of being knocked out of the World Cup at the quarter final stage by Belgium – they’ve won 10 and drawn one of the 11 matches since Russia and have only conceded two goals in that run. However, they haven’t won the Copa America for 12 years and failed to win the World Cup on their home patch in 2014.
There are no big names in this Bolivia squad and all but two of the selected players ply their trade in their home country. The lack of experience will probably mean they don’t have much success in Brazil this summer, and their form is particularly poor. They have failed to score in five of their last six matches and go into the Copa America off the back three defeats without scoring a goal. Away from Bolivia, they haven’t scored in their last five matches and it is hard to see them troubling the experienced Brazil defence this weekend.
It is likely that Gabriel Jesus will get the nod to start the match ahead of Roberto Firmino and he’s the in-form player in this Brazil squad. Fresh from winning the domestic treble with Manchester City, Jesus has scored five times in his last three matches for his country. He scored twice in their last warm-up match against Honduras as Tite’s men really started ramping up their preparations and he looks a great bet at 8/11 with Paddy Power to score anytime in this game.
However, at odds of 13/5 to score the first goal, that’s the bet we’re on to build up our Copa America betting bank with this opening Brazil vs Bolivia prediction.
The odds for Brazil to win this match are 1/11 and they’re only 1/4 to win to nil. However, we’re predicting a few goals for the hosts and that means a bet on ‘Brazil to win both halves’ should be a winning one. This means they have to be leading at half-time, and then the score gets reset to 0-0. They then have to win the second half too for this betting tip to be a winning one.
Bolivia aren’t expected to get on the scoresheet and if they don’t, we just need Brazil to score in both halves of the match for this tip to win. You’ll get odds of 19/20 for this at William Hill and it looks like a great double your money bet to kick-off the Copa America.
