Brighton vs Aston Villa prediction and betting tips for tonight’s Carabao Cup fixture at 7.45pm. Neither side have made a great start to the season in the Premier League but Aston Villa did put six past Crewe in the last round of this competition.
The League Cup will be seen as a good chance of getting to Wembley for the likes of Brighton and Aston Villa this season, with Tottenham already out of the competition and more shocks expected tonight, neither side should play a weakened team in this one, but the chances are they will. Who will come out on top in the battle of the Premier League sides?
Brighton got off to a great start this season, beating Watford 3-0 away from home in their opening match of the season. A match that signalled the start of the end for now-former Watford manager Javi Gracia. That result was not really followed up by Brighton though. Since then they have only managed three draws against West Ham, Burnley and Newcastle. Matches they perhaps expected to win given their good start and big money signing Neal Maupay, who hasn’t really hit the ground running as of yet.
Aston Villa have also only won once this season, at home to Everton, and were beaten 3-2 in a thrilling match against Arsenal at the weekend. Villa have been showing glimpses of good attacking play but manager Dean Smith would have been really disappointed when his side failed to score against both Crystal Palace and West Ham United. They did put six past League One side Crewe in the last round though and another performance like that should see them through tonight.
Deam Smith should play a strong 11 tonight. His side have a great chance to go deep into the League Cup and after putting six past Crewe, he will want to keep that momentum going tonight. It is likely that Wesley will be given a rest but the likes of John McGinn and Jack Grealish could start the match at the AMEX. Villa do have some good players to come into the starting line-up so expect the likes of two goal man Conor Hourihane from the last round to start, along with Marvelous Nakamba in midfield.
Brighton will also fancy their chances tonight and home advantage will give them the edge, but Villa proved at Arsenal on Sunday that they will go away from home without fear and try and score goals. Graham Potter’s side edged past Bristol Rovers 2-1 in the last round thanks to a 92nd minute Glenn Murray goal. The veteran is a likely starter again tonight.
I am siding with an away win in this match but I am not expecting too many fireworks. Before the 3-2 loss at Arsenal, Villa had lost 1-0 at Crystal Palace and drawn 0-0 at home to West Ham. Brighton drew 0-0 at the weekend and before that they were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley. Under 2.5 goals looks like one of the best bets of the day in this match and the odds seem generous at 9/10 with bet365. If you join bet365 today you get their up to £100 in bet credits sign-up bonus.
For a better odds bet, Aston Villa to win on the win-draw-win market is priced at 5/2 with Betfair and that looks a good price in what should be a tight fixture. There would also be the option to cashout your bet if Villa went 1-0 up.
The last prediction for this match tonight is Aston Villa to win the match 1-0. As mentioned above, I’m expecting a tight affair on the South Coast and not many goals, if this is the case, a 1-0 Villa win backs up that bet well. As with the betting tip above, there will be the option to cashout should Aston Villa go 1-0 up in the match too.
