Bristol City vs Middlesbrough Betting Tips

Bristol City got off to a wobbly start, but they appear to have found their feet, and Lee Johnson’s side are notoriously streaky. Following their 3-1 victory over Hull last weekend, the Robins boss said that his starting XI performed well, but it was his subs which changed the game. He has plenty of depth in the squad, although Tomas Kalas’ injury at the Kcom potentially leaves them a little short of options at the back. Bailey Wright is another absentee, whilst Korey Smith is a long-term loss. Ashley Williams has featured for the Under-23s, and he may be drafted in over the next few weeks. Benik Afobe was bereft of confidence at the Bet365, and couldn’t find his shooting boots for Stoke, but the striker has hit the ground running at Ashton Gate, and will be looking to continue his scoring streak on Saturday lunchtime. Johnson’s men have now scored seven times in their last three matches, and they’ll be feeling pretty positive coming into this fixture. They’ve won two of the last three matches at this stadium with Middlesbrough, although the Teessiders emerged 1-0 winners last season. The hosts will be hoping to pick up three points prior to the International Break.

It hasn’t been the dream start for Jonathon Woodgate at Middlesbrough. They’ve picked up just five points from their opening five matches, and their lack of firepower is letting them down. True, they’re playing a far more expansive and more entertaining brand of football under the former defender, but with just two goals in their last four matches, they aren’t quite clicking in the final third. Worryingly, Boro aren’t seemingly able to perform across a full 90 minutes. They’ve been lively for 45 minutes at a time, but have failed to match those energy levels throughout the rest of the contest. They were beaten 1-0 by Blackburn in their last away trip, and they could struggle to pick up anything from this fixture. Fans are still on side for now, but there are one or two frustrations beginning to creep in. They have one of the youngest sides in the division, and inconsistent performances are to be expected, however they need to start climbing the table in the next few weeks.

Following a defeat to Boro at this stadium last season, Bristol City won four on the spin. They also won seven in a row between December and February, and picked up three wins from four at the end of March. They are a side who do definitely momentum, and they can be hard to stop when they’re on a roll. The Robins are looking for their fourth win on the spin on Saturday lunchtime, and despite some injury issues at the back, they should have enough to pick up three points here. Boro aren’t showing enough yet, and they aren’t playing for the full 90 minutes. The hosts are 21/20 at the time of writing, which looks a very good price indeed.

The aforementioned Benik Afobe has been in excellent form lately, and he should get plenty of chances in this game. He’s scored a variety of goals over the last fortnight, and should be able to stretch the Middlesbrough defence with his high energy levels. He’s 9/5 to notch in this game, and make it four goals in as many matches.
