Burnley vs Manchester City betting tips and predictions for the Premier League champions’ visit to Burnley. City make the short trip to Turf Moor knowing that three more wins from their final three games will guarantee them a second successive crowd irrespective of what current front-runners Liverpool do.
Kick-off time: 2.05pm
Date: Sunday 28th April 2019
Turf Moor, Burnley
Despite Liverpool thumping Huddersfield 5-0 on Friday night, the equation remains a very simple one for Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad. The Reds currently lead the Premier League table by two points but have played a game more than City which means winning the league title is out of their hands.
The situation hasn’t really changed much over the past month and Liverpool now face the very likely prospect of amassing 97 points and still not coming out on top. That points tally would have been enough to secure the Premier League title every single season since its inception – bar the current and previous campaign.
Burnley are on a pretty decent run of form at the moment and have virtually cemented their top flight status for another year at least, but in reality they have very little play for now. I can see them giving City a scare by scoring – which has happened more than once in recent weeks – but ultimately still expect the away side to prevail for our Burnley vs Manchester City predictions this weekend. The best odds for Man City to win and BTTS are 2/1 with Ladbrokes, where you get a £30 sign-up bonus.
Sadio Mane and Mo Salah both bagged a brace on Friday night to pass Sergio Aguero in the Premier League goalscoring charts. And although winning the Golden Boot won’t be a priority for the Argentinian – or indeed the other two players mentioned – it will certainly be in the back of his mind.
Football romantics fondly hark back to Martin Tyler’s memorable commentary when Aguero scored a last-gasp winner against Queens Park Rangers to secure their first Premier League title and it was fitting that it was the former Atletico Madrid striker who sealed the silverware that day. Aguero has remained at the club ever since, becoming their all-time top scorer to boot, so it would be equally apt if it were his goals that were again decisive in the Citizens landing another Premier League trophy.
You can get 5/7 on him bagging at some stage here, which is significantly longer than some of the other prices floating about. One or two firms are as short as 8/13 – so get on quick!
As touched upon, Sean Dyche’s Burnley have all but consolidated their status as a Premier League club and are comfortably clear of those fighting relegation as we approach the last couple of matches. They have also scored in each of their last seven outings, including two against Chelsea on Monday night, so don’t expect them to just sit back and soak things up.
I can see City having to work hard to get the three points again here and Burnley are famed for making things tough for their opponents. The Clarets are unbeaten in their last four Premier League outings and would love to make it five, but I just can’t see that happening.
Instead, I think City will have too much and win this by a two goal margin or thereabouts. A 3-1 away victory is priced up at 12/1 and, interestingly, is one of the most popular bets the match tis weekend. That selection rounds off our Burnley vs Manchester City predictions.
Burnley to win – 22/1
Draw – 8/1
Man City to win – 1/7
The 22/1 for Burnley makes them one of the biggest Premier League prices to win a match.
