Birmingham vs Norwich predictions and betting tips for the weekend Championship fixture at St. Andrews. Can either side get off to a winning start and what is the best bet for the match?

The Championship makes a welcome return this weekend, with this match featuring two teams that will be hoping to have fared better than the previous campaign, come May. Norwich City travel west to the Midlands and will face Birmingham at St. Andrew’s in what promises to be a typically difficult encounter to predict.

Reasons for our Birmingham City vs Norwich City Predictions

If there’s one positive to be taken from the unpredictability of the first round of fixtures, it’s that there are always a few teams that get caught cold. That could play into the hands of anyone looking to exploit the both teams to score market – particularly with a degree of uncertainty surrounding both teams involved here. You can get 5/6 on both sides scoring at some stage, with the best odds available from Betfair and that’s the first of our Birmingham vs Norwich predictions.

Ben Marshall played a vital role in Millwall’s promotion push last campaign and was heavily pursued by a number of clubs before eventually signing signing for the Canaries. The 27-year-old wide man completed the switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers towards the end of June and will be looking to replicate the form that made him one of the division’s most feared wingers. It wouldn’t surprise me if he got off to a good start, and what better way to do so than by scoring on debut? You can get 7/2 on Marshall in the anytime goalscorer odds this weekend, with Bet Victor paying the best odds on this outcome.

Despite barely surviving last season, the bookmakers have installed Birmingham as slight favourites here. I must admit this has taken me slightly aback, particularly as Daniel Farke has heavily reinforced his squad during the off-season. The Blues being priced up as more likely to win doesn’t phase me – quite the opposite in fact – and simply entices me to have a punt on Norwich. You can get 21/10 on an away victory, with Unibet offering these odds, and this completes my three Birmingham City vs Norwich City betting tips.

Birmingham City vs Norwich City Recommended Bets & Odds

As already touched upon, it is the hosts who are marginally preferred in the betting. Odds of around 6/4 are available on Birmingham winning, with a draw 12/5 (Bet365) and the away win I previously alluded to backable at 21/10.Elsewhere, you can get 6/5 with Betfair on there being more than 2.5 goals in the match, with over 3.5 goals priced up at 3/1 with various firms including William Hill.

Birmingham City vs Norwich City Team News

Birmingham boss Garry Monk has made no secret of the fact that he believes his side need to strengthen – a task made incredibly difficult by the embargo currently hanging over them. It’s therefore anyone’s guess as to who could start against Norwich.

The away side, meanwhile, have been very busy this summer, securing the likes of Tim Krul, ex-Celtic man Teemu Pukki and Jordan Rhodes on loan. It’s likely to be a very new-look Norwich side taking to the field at St. Andrew’s.

Birmingham Key Player

Amidst all the recent carnage and goings-on at Birmingham City, there has at least been a few constants. Once of these is local midfielder David Davis, who grew up in nearby Smethwick, and the ex-Wolves man has made almost 200 appearances since 2014. Unspectacular if not reliable, Davis will be looking to stamp his authority in the middle of the park.

Norwich Key Player

It seems bold to suggest that Jordan Rhodes could be a key player for Norwich following his disappointing goal return at Sheffield Wednesday, but there’s no doubt there’s a player in there somewhere. The 28-year-old banged in 73 goals in 124 league outings for Huddersfield Town and registered similar stats following his move to Blackburn Rovers. He’s yet to hit those heights since, but don’t discount him just yet.
