Ipswich vs Blackburn Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Ipswich betting tips

Ipswich Town vs Blackburn Rovers predictions and betting tips for the weekend’s Championship fixture at Portman Road. Take a look at how we think these two will fare on the opening day.

Newly-promoted Blackburn Rovers travel to East Anglia hoping to put down a marker when they take on Ipswich Town this weekend. The former Premier League champions battled Wigan for automatic League One promotion last campaign and will be hoping to start strongly on their return to the second tier.

Reasons for our Ipswich Town vs Blackburn Rovers Predictions

Having so far staved off interest in their talisman from various clubs, Ipswich will be hoping Martyn Waghorn maintains the form that saw him finish last season as one of the Championship’s highest combined providers of goals and assists. The subject of a supposed £8m bid only a few days ago – and with Middlesbrough also said to now be interested – the ex-Rangers man bagged with much regularity last season and Paul Hurst will be counting on a similar return this season. Waghorn is 6/4 to score anytime here, with this price available from Bet365.

For a while last season, Ipswich were in the hunt for a promotion spot before eventually finishing mid-table. The fact they were in contention for so long was largely down to a strong home record, with defeats a thing of rarity at Portman Road. Town fans will be optimistic about this becoming a theme, and we see no reason why it can’t be so. Ipswich/draw double chance, while only 1/2, looks an excellent choice for any accumulator boosts – particularly as Blackburn will likely consider a point a positive start to their Championship return.

The third of my Ipswich Town vs Blackburn Rovers betting tips sees me explore the pros and cons of a more adventurous bet. For all their attacking excellence last season, Blackburn still looked rocky at the back at times. And while the acquisition of Scott Wharton should partially address that, I question whether that will be enough. With that in mind, I like the look of Ipswich -1 – that is, in the conventional handicap market – not least because of the odds on offer. This is priced up at 5/1 with Betfred, and there won’t be too many raised eyebrows if Ipswich DO win by a two-goal margin.

Ipswich Town vs Blackburn Rovers Team News

Striker Ellis Harrison could be handed a starting berth for Ipswich following his summer switch from Bristol Rovers, particularly as David McGoldrick has now left the club for pastures new. Highly-regarded Chelsea starlet Kasey Palmer may feature in a central midfield role for Blackburn, with Bradley Dack and skipper Charlie Mulgrew shoo-ins barring injuries between now and matchday.

Ipswich Key Player

The aforementioned Waghorn carries a constant goal threat and might prove a thorn in Blackburn’s side should he remain at the club and play. Now maturing into the centre forward many felt he would become whilst at Sunderland, Waghorn could certainly make his mark on this match.

Blackburn Key Player

Ex-Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack had an excellent campaign last season and has been the subject of a potential transfer saga for much of the summer. Intelligent and dynamic, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder is at the heart of most of Blackburn’s offensive play and chips in with his fair share of goals.
