Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Middlesbrough predictions betting tips

With competitive football back, it’s time to look at the first set of midweek fixtures with our focus here on Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United predictions. With both sides having already dropped points on the opening day, this is a good opportunity to keep up with the early Championship pace setters.

Boro, who are now in their second successive Championship season after relegation from the Premier League in 2016-17, picked up a point at Millwall on Saturday afternoon with a 2-2 draw whereas Sheffield United were the victims of a late Yan Dhanda winner as they fell at home to recently relegated Swansea.

Reasons for Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United betting tips

This seems like a lazy, obvious bet based on the opening weekend of the season but most bookies are offering the same odds for it not to happen. Going to a place as difficult as the Den and bagging two is impressive for the Teeside club. Meanwhile, United’s plethora of attacking options include Ben Woodburn, the Liverpool loanee who has been tipped as a future star by the Anfield faithful. The first of our Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United predictions is for both teams to score and this can be found at 5/6 with Coral.

On a similar note, Middlesbrough’s two goals for and two against show their lack of defensive stability and this is something they’ve also shown in pre season. Billy Sharp- who has 64 goals for the club since he signed in 2015 has had interest from across the football league thanks to his goal scoring record and it won’t be long before he opens his account for the season. Whilst the odds for over 2.5 goals aren’t overly rewarding, over 3.5 goals is a good shout and that’s why it is our second betting tip for Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United on Tuesday. It can be found at 14/5 with Ladbrokes.

Whilst Middlesbrough are favourites according to the bookies, this does not guarantee success for them. Last season Sheffield United had the best away record out of most of the mid table Championship sides and this included holding teams to draws on the road. The North East side did well at the Riverside last season but seem error prone after their match on Saturday. Are we sitting on the fence? Maybe, but we can’t see a way to really separate these sides. Our third Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United betting tip is for a draw at full time which can be found at 12/5 with Paddy Power.

Middlesbrough Team News vs Sheffield United

Ben Gibson’s move to Burnley on Sunday morning obviously rules him out of the match whilst Adama Traore, who remains a transfer target, is unlikely to play after missing the opening game through injury. Players may be fatigued after pushing hard for a 96th minute winner on Saturday, but this is unlikely to affect the squad too much.

Sheffield United Team News vs Middlesbrough

Paul Coutts is still injured and it unlikely to return until the end of the month. Attacking options are not an issue for Chris Wilder who started both Billy Sharp and Ben Woodburn on the bench on Saturday, but will either of them make their opening start of the season on Tuesday night?
