Reasons for Our Reading vs Derby Betting Tips

Derby should be ready for this opener tonight and have looked well-organised in pre-season. Whilst it is never advised to read too much into pre-season friendlies, they have beaten Premier League duo Southampton and Wolves alongside League One, Coventry. They have signed a number of talented players with the likes of Mason Mount and Harry Wilson joining on loan alongside League One top goalscorer Jack Marriott. They’ve also added width in the shape of Florian Jozefzoon, who thrived at this level for Brentford last season. In stark contrast, Reading look far from prepared for the new campaign and haven’t a game in any competition since beating Preston at the beginning of April. Whilst they picked up credible draws with Besiktas and Fulham in pre-season, Wilfied Zaha and Crystal Palace simply danced around them on Saturday and Paul Clement has plenty of work to do. They struggled in front of goal last season and may find it hard to find a way past the Rams. They’ve added experience in the shape of David Meylor and John O’Shea and there will be plenty of reliance upon new recruit Marc McNulty. Derby should be able to open with three points and a Rams victory is the first of our Reading vs Derby predictions. They can be backed at 11/8 with 888Sport.

If you fancy plenty of goals this weekend, check out our Over 2.5 Goals tips and predictions

Opening games in the Football League are rarely full of goals and Reading don’t always make it easy for sides to find the back of the net in Berkshire. Both of these sides will require time to find their feet and the new signings may take a while to settle into the game. The Royals netted just five times in their opening six games last season and there are doubts over their ability in front of goals once again. Under 2.5 is a short price but it looks like a realistic outcome and is available at 6/11 with Sport Pesa. It is the second of our Reading vs Derby betting tips and you can use the £10 free bet on this weekend’s Championship action.

There are a number of possibilities for our anytime goalscorer tip with Cameron Jerome scoring his only goal for Norwich at the Majeski Stadium last season but we’re opting for a bigger price selection. Harry Wilson joins on loan and took the Championship by storm last season with seven goals for Hull. Each of those strikes came from midfield and took place between February and April. He could continue his purple patch and is 11/4 to score anytime in this game. Our third and final Reading vs Derby predictions is Harry Wilson to Score Anytime and is available with Betfair.

Reading Team News vs Derby

New-boy Sam Baldock has joined this club this week but his lack of recent first team football means he’s unlikely to start here. Marc McNulty may start up front. Fellow new recruit David Meylor is likely to go straight into the team but Liam Moore is believed to be keen on a move away from the club and may not be selected.

Key Player: There is a lack of creativity in this Reading side with the majority of the flair falling upon Mo Barrow. The Gambian enjoyed a productive second half to the season and fans will be hoping he continues where he left off.

Derby Team News vs Reading

Frank Lampard has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal and any number of them could be selected for this match. He’s singled out Mason Mount for praise in pre-season and is likely to select the Chelsea loanee here. Matej Vydra, who is continually linked with a move away from the club may not be picked. George Evans swapped Berkshire for the East Midlands on Tuesday and may start against his former employers in this game.

Key Player: Harry Wilson may be part of today’s football predictions but the experienced David Nugent is wise old head who will look to set an example to some of the younger players in the squad. Lampard is believed to be a fan of the high pressing game and Nugent’s work-rate will undoubtedly help their cause. He has been praised by the new boss in pre-season.
