Chelsea and Manchester City meet in the 2018 Community Shield this weekend and our football tipster has picked out three betting tips. We’re also taking a look at the latest team news, head to head stats and reasons for our predictions.
The traditional curtain raiser to the new Premier League season takes place on Sunday 5th August as Chelsea and Man City meet at Wembley for the Community Shield, see our betting tips and predictions for the match below.
Chelsea have failed to win any of their last four Community Shield matches they have competed in and Manchester City should heap more misery on that record here. City won the last meeting between the sides in this match 3-2 back in 2012. New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has made a solid start to life in West London with his team picking up some decent performances in the International Champions Cup and it remains to be seen how fit some of the Manchester City World Cup players after missing the pre-season tour. However, with uncertainty still surrounding Hazard, Willian and Courtois we’re betting on a Man City win for our Chelsea vs Manchester City Community Shield betting tips. Get the best odds here.
Manchester City left about 10 of their first team squad at home for the recent International Champions Cup matches but one player who did join up was Bernardo Silva. He scored a couple against Bayern Munich and should get a start in this match with the likes of David Silva and Raheem Sterling not expected to be fully fit. B.Silva is going to be the selection for our anytime goalscorer tips on the Community Shield and the best odds can be found here.
The last of this weekend’s Chelsea vs Man City betting tips for the Wembley show-piece is going to be a correct score tip and we need to back up our earlier prediction of a Manchester City victory inside the 90 minutes. It’s hard to predict what the starting line-ups will be here but City should still be strong and Chelsea will be without Edin Hazard and Willian. The last of our tips is for Manchester City to win 2-1 and the best odds for this are 8/1 via this link.
We’ve already tipping a Manchester City win but the odds for Chelsea to win are 11/4 with Boylesports and the draw is 27/10. There will be no extra-time in this fixture so it could go straight to penalties. Both teams to score could be an advisable bet at 8/13. It is unknown if Sergio Aguero will be fit to start but he’s favourite in the first goalscorer odds at 9/2 with bet365, Morata is 7/1 with the same firm and our anytime scorer tip, Bernardo Silva, is 9/1 at Unibet.

With Edin Hazard still absent following the World Cup, it could be left to teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi to make a dream start at Wembley. Giroud isn’t back from the World Cup so Morata will start up front and Pedro will play on the opposite wing. New signing Jorginho should make his first competitive start and Ross Barkley could be in the starting line-up. David Luiz has featured heavily in pre-season and may start alongside Rudiger in the heart of the Chelsea defence. Courtios isn’t back from the World Cup so Caballero should play ahead of bizarre new signing Rob Green.
City are expected to welcome back most of their World Cup players for this visit to Wembley. Riyad Mahrez is expected to play despite fearing he’d miss the start of the season and Sergio Aguero could be back in the starting 11 alongside Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva. Eduardo is unlikely to be back in the starting line-up so Bravo will play and they could deploy a couple of youngsters after Guardiola declared his delight with their performances during the summer. Fernandinho is back in training and might play following Brazil’s quarter final World Cup exit and Mendy should start after playing a bit-part in France’s World Cup victory.
