What a Sunday we have in prospect. A Super Sunday no less, as Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge, just a short while after Everton and Liverpool have served up lunchtime treat.
Chelsea start as 7/5 favourites to win the match with Ladbrokes, Manchester United can be backed at 9/4 with Coral, whilst if you fancy the draw you will get 5/2 with Stan James.
Chelsea are yet to lose a league match this season, and with seven wins in eight matches they look stronger with every game they play. They have averaged over two goals scored per game and have kept four clean sheets in their opening eight fixtures. They will be without John Terry who is suspended, but apart from his omission, Roberto Di Matteo has pretty much a full squad to choose from. However Frank Lampard is yet to be declared fit after being substituted with a calf injury early-on in The Blues midweek Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Man Utd share second place with City, four points behind top-of-the-table Chelsea. The Red Devils have won six of their opening eight league matches, however they have lost arguably their two biggest tests, against Everton and Spurs. Surely Sir Alex will view Sunday’s match at The Bridge as United’s toughest assignment so far this season, although that will not stop him from demanding a United victory. The head-to-head statistics are not in United’s favour however; they last recorded a Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge in 2002.
In terms of a bet, the standout value in this game is for both teams to score. This bet would have paid out in the last five league meetings between the sides, and at 8/13 with Stan James rates as a solid punt. Over 2.5 goals should also be backed as this has occurred in seven of the last eight matches in all competitions between Chelsea and United. 8/11 is the price with Ladbrokes and is also worthy of a few quid. Finally I cannot pick a winner of this game, so take a chance on the draw at 5/2 with Stan James, or the 2-2 correct score at 14/1 with Betfred if you are brave.
