Chicago Fire vs Columbus Crew Preview

Two struggling Eastern Conference sides meet for this midweek match-up with both teams desperate to end their losing sequences. The Fire have been frustratingly wasteful this season, and their lack of firepower is really starting to hamper them. They have netted 32 times this season, but have struggled to bag more than a single goal in many of their recent matches. They fell behind after just 45 seconds at the weekend, and can’t afford many more lapses in concentration.

Columbus Crew have forgotten what winning feels like, and they were narrowly defeated to Orlando at the weekend. They were actually decent in that contest, and more than held their own. They hit the woodwork, but couldn’t pick up a precious point. It’s been a hugely disappointing season, although the visitors have only been beaten by a single goal or two in recent outings, and aren’t getting completely outclassed.

Both sides have just five wins each this season, although the Fire’s high number of draws keeps them above their opponents going into this game.

The hosts are unbeaten in their last three meetings with the Crew, and both sides regularly find the net whenever they meet.

Chicago Fire vs Columbus Crew Betting Tips

Chicago Fire were well-backed last weekend, but they failed to justify it, and they cannot be trusted here. Yes, they are playing an extremely poor side, but they certainly aren’t guaranteed to pick up three points. They are around 7/10 to win, but the draw is far more appealing. The Fire have drawn a quarter of their games this season, and they have trouble finishing sides off.

I also thought that Columbus Crew played reasonably well against Orlando, and if they are going to put an end to their losing streak, it is likely to be here.

The draw is 3/1, and looks the best option.

Gyasi Zardes seems the most likely player to net for the visitors. He hit the crossbar at the weekend, and will be keen to add to his six goals so far this season.
