Espanyol have already began their season as they won their Champions League third qualifying round 1st leg against Luzern 3-0 away from home. They also had a solid preseason where they went unbeaten in their 5 games with only 1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

Sevilla began their preseason with a 6 game winning streak that saw a lot of goals get scored at both ends of the pitch as they defeated Schalke, Liverpool and Hoffenheim among others. However they ended with a 2-1 loss to Granada and a 2-2 draw with Extremadura UD in their last 2 games before the season opener.

Espanyol had a great season last season rising as high as 2nd on matchday 11, before finishing a more normal 7th place. They have since lost key players like their top goal scorer Borja Iglesias, Hermoso, Aaron Martin and club legend Sergio Garcia without really replacing all of them making a repeat of last season difficult.

Sevilla look to begin an interesting season under Lopetegui who had an eventful last season that saw him get his dream Real Madrid role and get sacked from the Spanish National team setup in the space of days just before the World Cup.

Sevilla have been very active in the transfer window with them also letting go of their top scorer Ben Yedder along with Sarabia, Promes, Muriel and Wober. However they have made a lot of interesting signings like Rony Lopes, Ocampos, Kounde, Dabbur, Joan Jordan, Luuk De Jong and Oliver Torres with a good mix of youth and experience as they begin a new season looking to get back into the Champions League places.
