Everton host injury ravaged Newcastle at Goodison Park tonight looking to bounce back from a spine shuddering defeat at West Brom two weeks ago.
The home side got off to a flying start to the Premier League season, beating Manchester United under the lights at Goodison Park followed by a 3-1 win at Aston Villa. That form was halted against West Brom but a Monday night fixture normally brings out the best in Everton. In Everton’s last five Premier League matches they have won to nil four times (the one goal scored was by Newcastle in the final goal of last season). Everton to win to nil here is 9/4 with Blue Square (click here for a free £25 bet).
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is still hit by a series of injuries including Tim Krul, Coloccini, Danny Simpson, Tiote and Ryan Taylor. That line-up means their defence will once again be made up of younger players and should give Everton’s Nikica Jevavic a real chance to get on the scoresheet. In the betting he is 11/2 to score first (Bet Victor) and 7/4 with Sportingbet to score in the 90 minutes.
Newcastle’s main attacking threat will come from the creativity of Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse up front, Cisse is yet to score this season but he is 11/4 (Paddy Power) break that run tonight. Demba Ba is 16/5 to score in the 90 minutes.
The Toon Army have only won once in their last nine visits to Goodison Park and in their only away match this season they went down 2-0 at Chelsea. The bookmakers make Everton an 8/1 (Stan James) shot to win 2-0 tonight.
With Newcastle’s long list of injuries it is difficult to look past an Everton win here tonight, they are a strong home outfit and evening kick-offs always bring the best out of the team, and their fans as illustrated in the 1-0 win over Manchester United last month. Then it was Fellaini who got the winner and he is likely to dictate the midfield again tonight. The Belgian only played 20 minutes for his country last week so comes into this one fresh.
