Chelsea v Man City predictions and football betting tips for this weekend’s FA Cup fixture on Sunday 21st February 2016.
The FA Cup serves up a real treat on Sunday as the soon-to-be deposed Premier League Champions Chelsea play host to title-challenging Man City at Stamford Bridge, our tipster has got three football tips.
Guus Hiddink’s Blues side secured their biggest win of the season last time out in the Premier League, crushing Newcastle United 5-1. However, the Dutch manager lost his first match of his current temporary spell in charge of Chelsea as they were overcome by a confident PSG side by two goals to one in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Man City’s last fixture was a 2-1 defeat to Spurs that added extra pressure onto Manuel Pellegrini’s side given that they were also comprehensively beaten 3-1 the previous week by League leaders Leicester City.
However, City booked their place in the Capital One Cup final with a 4-3 aggregate win over Everton in late January, and this Cup run may well give the team the extra confidence needed to also progress in the FA Cup.
Chelsea’s form since Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties has picked up dramatically, and they remain unbeaten in the League since Hiddink was appointed. Contrast this with Man City’s deteriorating League form, and there is reason to believe that Chelsea have what it takes to strike a blow on Man City’s quest for an unprecedented quadruple.
With the trip to Paris midweek, Chelsea’s squad will inevitably be rotated to rest some of the players that played in the 2-1 defeat. Given that Man City haven’t played for a week, they may have also decided to go with a full strength line up in the FA Cup, but with a gruelling trip to Kiev on Wednesday for their Champions League second round clash with Dynamo, City have indicated that they will definitely include some youngsters in the starting line-up.
Kelechi Iheanacho scored a hat trick in the last round as City overcame an abysmal Aston Villa side 4-0, and the Nigerian will more than likely be given a starring role against Chelsea.
The match is live on BBC One at 16:00 on Sunday, and I think that both teams will be extremely aware that a replay would be the worst outcome for either side given their respective congested schedules. I think that attacking football will be the order of the day, and I can quite easily see both teams going for the goals necessary to avoid a replay.
My first Chelsea v Man City prediction is for both teams to score. The best odds for BTTS in the Chelsea v Man City FA Cup tie are 5/6 with Bet Victor.
Despite both side’s reluctances for a replay, I feel that a draw is the most likely outcome. Chelsea’s form has improved and they have become a resilient side once more. Man City’s belief has been shaken by consecutive league defeats, and I can see them using this match to try and restore some confidence to their beleaguered morale. On paper the match looks pretty even.
My second Chelsea v Man City betting tip is for the match to end as a draw. Odds of 11/4 can be found with Betfred.
Kelechi Iheanacho has four goals from just two games in this year’s FA Cup, and every time the Nigerian youngster has taken to the pitch in a City shirt, he has made a big impact on the game. Or my anytime goalscorer tip I am willing to bet that the 19-year-old continues his fine Cup form and bags a goal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
My final Chelsea vs Manchester City prediction is for Iheanacho to score anytime. The best odds for this betting tip are 31/10 at 888Sport.
