Since the League Cup final win on penalties against Chelsea, Man City have played 16 times and won 15, their only loss was the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Champions League. That run meant they held off the challenge of Liverpool to win the Premier League title, and Pep Guardiola’s side are now going for the treble of domestic trophies.
In the FA Cup so far this season, they have had a couple of nervy moments, none more so than going 2-0 down away to Swansea City, before some rather fortunate officiating ensured they won the match 3-2. Their 1-0 semi-final win over Brighton was not plain sailing either. In their earlier matches they brushed aside Newport County, Burnley and Rotherham United. Guardiola will want to finish the season on a high after the delirium of winning the Premier League last weekend and Vincent Kompany has already expressed how eager the team are to win another trophy.
It may not be the quadruple they had hoped for, but a treble winning season for the Cityzens can only be seen as success.
The Hornets got into the FA Cup final thanks to a brace from Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu in the semi-final against Wolves. They looked dead and buried after going 2-0 down at Wembley, but fought back to 2-2 thanks to a last minute Troy Deeney penalty, before a second Deulofeu goal secured their place in the final.
They’ve had a great season domestically but unfortunately tailed off in the last few weeks of the season, meaning they finished 11th. Just one point from their last four is not an ideal preparation for an FA Cup final and that has probably contributed to the reason they are such a big price in the betting odds.
So far Watford’s FA Cup results have been wins over Woking, Newcastle, QPR and Crystal Palace, before the extra-time victory against Wolves in the semi-final. If Watford win the FA Cup, they’ll get a Europa League place, otherwise it will go to seventh placed finishers Wolves.
It is hard to see how Watford can stop this Manchester City run, but shocks do happen in one off matches and City were a victim of exactly that when losing the FA Cup final to Wigan. This City side look imperious under Pep though and no matter what starting line-up he chooses, it doesn’t seem to affect the way they play. City had kept clean sheets in their previous four matches before conceding the opening goal to Brighton on the last day of the season, but for our FA Cup final predictions, we’re expecting normal service to be resumed with their solid defence keeping Watford out. The Hornets had a poor end to the season and that should continue at Wembley.
The first Man City vs Watford betting tip is for Manchester City to win the FA Cup final without conceding a goal at odds of 10/11 with William Hill.
Raheem Sterling has been at his brilliant best this season and ended the Premier League campaign with the FWA Footballer of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year awards. He has scored 18 goals domestically this season and 23 in all competitions and we’re betting on him to get another one at Wembley in the FA Cup final this weekend. Sterling’s odds to score first in the FA Cup final are 10/3 but we’re going for the safer bet of Sterling to score anytime at odds of 10/11.
The last of our predictions for the 2019 FA Cup final is a correct score bet and we’re going for a 2-0 Manchester City victory. We’re already tipping City to win the match to nil so it makes sense to add a correct score bet to this for some better value.
Watford conceded nine goals in their last three Premier League matches and although they had nothing to play for and their players would have had one eye on Wembley, that is still some poor performances in the build-up to such a big match.
City are always consistent and the question is normally how many goals will they score, but FA Cup final’s are often close run matches and this could be no different on the scoreline. It is hard to see City scoring four or five here so the last of our Man City vs Watford predictions for the FA Cup final is a 2-0 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side and the odds for this are 5/1 at William Hill.
