Port Vale vs Sunderland Predictions

Our FA Cup predictions for Sunday afternoon come from Vale Park as Neil Aspin’s side host Sunderland in the 1st round of the competition. It’s been a mixed start to the campaign for the Valiants but they remain mid-table in the fourth tier and they have responded well to their earlier set-back. After being thumped 6-2, Aspin opted to revert to a back three with two wing-deployed and it resulted in three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. Their 2-2 draw with Notts County saw Aspin’s men take a more adventurous approach and they were indebted to Tom Pope’s finishing instincts to net them a vital point. The Vale squad is still relatively thin and although both Manny Oyeleke and Christian Montano are close to first team returns, they don’t have the biggest pool of players to choose from for this game. Sunderland have been excellent this season and arrive off the back of a highly professional 2-0 victory at Home Park last weekend. They have moved up to second and are looking incredibly dangerous. They’ve won five on the bounce coming into this fixture and have conceded just once in that run. Jon McLaughlin has been a savvy summer signing and Jack Ross is clearly tactically aware enough to switch things up when required. There’s a feel-good factor around the club once again and I think that can continue in this fixture. The Black Cats are looking excellent and unstoppable at the moment and I believe that even a tricky looking trip to Burslem cannot stop their momentum. Sunderland to Win is 4/5 with Betfred and that’s the first of our Port Vale vs Sunderland predictions for Sunday.

Port Vale vs Sunderland Under/Over Odds

Sunderland have been keeping clean sheets on a regular basis but they are likely to tinker with their XI for this fixture. Port Vale has found their attacking edge after a couple of drab affairs and they should be able to get on the score-sheet and play their part in an entertaining FA Cup tie. Aspin has told his players to “create their own history” and many of his squad will be looking to make a name for themselves on Sunday afternoon. It should be played at a decent tempo and TV viewers can expect a few goals in this one. Over 2.5 Goals is 4/5 with Bet Victor and that is the second of our Port Vale vs Sunderland predictions for Sunday afternoon.

Port Vale vs Sunderland Anytime Goalscorer Odds

There are a number of players who will fancy their chances of finding the back of the net in this tie. Max Power is likely to be reinstated to the team after returning from suspension and the former Tranmere man has something to prove here. Our anytime goalscorer tip is George Honeyman. He spent time working under Neil Aspin at Gateshead before breaking into the Black Cats XI and he could come back to haunt his old gaffer. He pops up with important goals and it could be Honeyman who makes the difference here. He’s a decent price to find the net and can be backed at 7/2 with Paddy Power. He is the third of our Port Vale vs Sunderland betting tips for Sunday.

Port Vale vs Sunderland Match Preview

Unsurprisingly Sunderland start at an odds-on price for this game. The Black Cats have found their feet in League One and that’s why they can be backed at 4/5. Jack Ross’ side still have plenty of quality and showed their game management when beating Plymouth 2-0 in Devon last weekend. Port Vale have improved and they won’t make this easy for their opponents. They can be backed at 15/4 to cause a shock in the FA Cup. The draw is 14/5.

Port Vale have started scoring again after playing out a couple of bore-draws. The Valiants have the talismanic Tom Pope up front but they’ve also started scoring from midfield as well. Both Teams to Score? Yes is available at 7/10 and looks a decent option.

Team news is always important for games in the FA Cup and Jack Ross could be tempted to rotate his squad. Jerome Sinclair could start and he’s priced at 9/2 to break the deadlock. Chris Maguire has been in top form this season and is 6/1 to open the scoring. For Vale, Tom Pope is the obvious pick and can be backed at 13/2 whilst Luke Hannant is available at 16/1.
