Slough vs Rochdale predictions and FA Cup betting tips for tonight’s last round 2 fixture including a total goals bet and match prediction.
Eighth tier Slough host third tier Rochdale on Monday night in the second round of the FA Cup, they will be looking to extend their cup run for as long as possible. Rochdale should, at least on paper, have more than enough quality to see off non-league Slough. But, as we know, the FA Cup is made for upsets. Every year we have them and it gives some smaller clubs the chance to get some exposure and compete against teams they usually wouldn’t.
Slough come into the game on the back of an FA Trophy elimination by Hendon after losing 3-0 on penalties, but they are on reasonably good form in the league after three wins and two draws in their last five league outings. They also had an impressive 6-0 win over Gainsborough in the last round of the FA Cup.
Rochdale are in somewhat mid-table form in the league after two wins, two losses and a draw in their last five, but of course League One is at a much higher level than the Southern League Premier that Slough take part in. They knocked out non-league Bromley in the last round after a 4-0 home win and will be looking to build on that and see off Slough and go into the next round.
Rochdale will no doubt feel that they can comfortably progress to the next round of the Cup with both the quality difference and the manner in which they comfortably progressed the last round against a lower quality opposition. As we know, if you underestimate a team in the cup you’ve got every chance to be on the wrong end of an embarrassing upset. I can’t see this happening with Rochdale. Yes, they are a very unpredictable team in the league but they also don’t leak goals. They have conceded 24 goals this season and outside of the top four teams this is one of the better records. Unfortunately, they also score a lot less than the majority of teams in the league, meaning that they have more draws than anything else this season with eight.
Slough will be up for this, it’s not often they get to play clubs of Rochdale’s size and with the prospect of getting a Championship team in round three they will be dying to take advantage of the occasion. With the way they have been playing in the league, even against higher opposition like Rochdale, they are more than capable of causing an upset. The Dale manager Keith Hill, who played for them before he became a manager, was a defender himself, and he’s managed to make them organised at the back and well prepared for anything like this. He is not one to underestimate an opposition of any ability. I think it will be a very tight game, and I find it hard to believe that there will be more than a goal at either side at best. What I am sure of is that in front of a home crowd Slough will be able to match Rochdale and I think they will force the game to a replay. They may lose in the replay but I am confident in a draw here. That’s why our first Slough vs Rochdale prediction is the draw at 18/5 with Betfred.
This game will be very tight. Cup games quite often are with one side as an underdog. Neither of these sides last round fixtures were close, with Rochdale beating Bromley 4-0 and Slough beating Gainsborough 6-0 but neither of our teams conceded. They both are quite good defensively and will both really want to progress to the next round so caution from both sides will be the dynamic of the game. I expect this to be a low scoring affair so Under 2.5 goals is a good bet at 13/10 with Bet Victor for our Slough vs Rochdale predictions today.
This will be the first meeting between the sides.
Slough will be without Gavin James and Harrison Gilkes tonight. Chris Flood should be recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place in the starting 11. Manny Williams is pushing for a start after coming off the bench and scoring last time out.
Rochdale are without Keith Keane and Jim McNulty is suspended after picking up five bookings.
