Ipswich vs AFC Wimbledon Preview

The Tractor Boys have made a good start back to life in League One, and they are proving very difficult to beat. They picked up a useful 2-2 draw at Peterborough at the weekend, and outshot their hosts 14-12. It was a very lively game in which there were several big chances, but they’ll be pleased to maintain their unbeaten start in the third tier. Paul Lambert has assembled a very young side, with a number of players having come through the Ipswich academy, and the fans are delighted to see them getting a chance. Summer signings were scarce although each of their first three goals this season have come courtesy of recent arrivals. Supporters will be pleased to see James Norwood get off the mark for the season, and he will be looking to add to his tally in this contest. Luke Chambers, who is one of the more experienced heads in the side has helped run a tight ship at the back, and they’ll be hoping to pick up their second clean sheet of the season here.

Wally Downes became a hero last season as he helped AFC Wimbledon preserve their League One status against all-odds. However, the former Crazy Gang star has not started well this season with the West Londoners picking up just a single point from their opening three matches. Admittedly, they’ve had some tough games with narrow defeats to Fleetwood and Rotherham – both of whom will be expected to be pushing for a top six spot. They picked up a decent point at home to Accrington at the weekend, and that gives them something to build upon here. Downes has asked for more from his side, and although this is a very difficult game, he will quietly fancy his sides chances of heading back to the capital with something to show for it. Despite having the numerical advantage in that game, Wimbledon weren’t able to create enough clearcut chances to trouble Accy, and that is a little worrying.

Ipswich vs AFC Wimbledon Betting Tips

Ipswich look settled under Paul Lambert, and although questions about squad depth may arise later in the season, they look a decent outfit. The Tractor Boys will be expected to challenge for a top six spot, and these are the games that they should be winning. They remain unbeaten despite having faced Sunderland, Burton and Peterborough, and on paper, this is their easiest game so far. I expect their price to shorten, but at 8/11, Ipswich look very backable.

AFC Wimbledon won’t make this easy for their opponents, and they will fight throughout the 90 minutes. Wally Downes’ men might just lack quality in the final third, but they will be scrapping away, and they don’t often lose heavily. Ipswich to Win by a 1 goal margin landed in their opener, whilst the Dons’ two defeats so far have both come by a single strike. It is 5/2 with Bet365.
