Doncaster vs Barnsley Predictions and Betting Tips: League One Preview

Doncaster vs Barnsley predictions and betting tips for this Friday’s League One clash on March 15th with an anytime goalscorer tip and goals prediction included.

It’s a South Yorkshire-derby on Friday night as the TV cameras visit the Keepmoat. Doncaster are firmly in the hunt for a play-off spot, and will be desperate to get back to winning ways following a disappointment sequence of results. Barnsley picked up a point against Sunderland in midweek, and will not wish to give Luton any more rope at the top of the table. Can the Tykes re-affirm their promotion credentials here? See our Doncaster vs Barnsley predictions below.

Doncaster vs Barnsley Preview

Doncaster are enduring a late-season slump, and their play-offs hopes took a dent last weekend with a defeat to AFC Wimbledon. Rovers weren’t able to collect three points on Tuesday night, picking up a point against Blackpool in very blustery conditions. Grant McCann’s side have undoubtedly been one of more unexpected successes of this season, but this is a real test of their credentials. Their home form has kept them competitive towards the top of the table, and only two sides – Sunderland and Fleetwood have left the Keepmoat with all three points this season. They do have a good record here against Barnsley, but Daniel Stendel’s side are incredibly difficult to beat, and they will not want to drop any points in this one. The Tykes now trail Luton by five points, and they weren’t able to see off Sunderland on Tuesday night. However, they were absolutely fantastic with ten men against Southend two weekends ago. They were absolutely clinical throughout, and although this will be tougher, they should have enough to collect three points here. Doncaster welcome back John Marquis, but that may not be enough to return to winning ways. The hosts face tough games against Luton and in-form Bristol Rovers in the next couple of weeks, but I can’t back them on current form. Barnsley Draw No Bet is the first of our League One predictions for Friday night.

Doncaster vs Barnsley Goals Prediction

Although many punters will be expecting goals in this game, it has to be noted that Barnsley have not conceded a goal since February 16th, and only two sides have found the net against them since the end of January. Barnsley’s foundations are very strong and they’re also giving up very few chances in the XG ratings. With Doncaster slightly off-colour at the moment, Barnsley may be able to hold firm here. Donny’s home games have been relatively high-scoring this season, but the majority of those have been against lesser-opposition. 71% of their home matches have seen Over 2.5 Goals land, but that stat has been helped by some generous defending from Scunthorpe, Oxford, Southend and Gillingham. They won’t find it quite as simple against Barnsley. Under 2.5 Goals looks like the best of the goals options in this one. It is the second of our Doncaster vs Barnsley predictions for Friday.

Doncaster vs Barnsley Anytime Goalscorer Betting Tips

I was hoping to find some value in this market, but with Kieffer Moore absent, Barnsley have turned to Cauley Woodrow for the majority of their goals this season. Alex Mowatt was a possibility, but every single one of his goals has arrived at Oakwell. So, Woodrow is the selection, and he is searching for goal number 15 of a profitable season. Four of his last seven have been scored on the road, and he landed the spoils for us in Barnsley’s last away trip. With the goals drying up for Donny recently, Woodrow looks like a decent option and is the third of our League One predictions.

Doncaster vs Barnsley Match Betting Preview

Given their league position, it’s understandable that Barnsley start as favourites for this tie. They can be backed at 11/8 to collect three points from this Yorkshire derby. The Tykes will not want to drop any more points in this one, and the draw is a possibility at 5/2. Doncaster are 9/5 to continue their good record at home against their near neighbours.

The bookies can’t seemingly decide whether this will be a high-scoring clash, with both Under 2.5 and Over 2.5 Goals priced at 9/10. 2-3 Goals exactly might be the best way of approaching this game – it would have landed in the last two meetings at the Keepmoat, and is priced at Evens.

Cauley Woodrow is available at 15/4 to score the first goal of the game, and will be a popular pick for the punters. John Marquis returns after sitting out of the game against Blackpool, and he is 4/1 to make an instant impact. Malik Wilks has been in excellent form this season, and he is 6/1 to open the scoring whilst the powerful Mamadou Thiam can be backed at 7/1.
