Reasons For Our Sunderland vs Charlton Predictions

The first of our Sunderland vs Charlton predictions is for the game to end all square. It’s always difficult to make a call on the opening week of the new season and there is undoubtedly some sort of hangover facing both of these two sides. The Addicks were play-off semi-final losers and there is serious concern about the lack of money at the club. They have purchased Lyle Taylor [more on him later] but sold hugely promising talent Ezri Konsa. Lee Bowyer hasn’t ‘officially’ been installed as full time manager but he remains in charge and he must pick his player up after going so close to promotion in May. The Black Cats’ plight has been well-documented and a change of ownership and management should renew fans interest this season. They have dropped into the third tier and they must adapt quickly. Jack Ross is an extremely intriguing appointment and he has purchased some League One regulars such as Chris Maguire and Jack Baldwin. They face Derby in their opening game of the season last year on TV and drew 1-1 and another stalemate looks likely here. Our first football prediction for today is Draw and it’s 13/5 with Bet365 for this game to end level.

Sunderland have improved their squad but there is still a reliance on younger players, many of whom have played very little first team football. Whilst many moments of quality should arise, there are also likely to be a few mistakes along the way and they could gift Charlton a goal in this game. The Addicks weren’t bad defensively last season but they failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last six away games at the end of the last campaign and their defence hasn’t altered dramatically since then. Both Teams to Score? Yes is available at 19/20 with Coral and is the second selection in our Sunderland vs Charlton predictions. We’re hoping for an entertaining 90 minutes in front of the TV cameras.

Lyle Taylor is a fine addition at this level and despite some money trouble, Charlton have been able to sign the versatile forward from AFC Wimbledon. The Staines-born striker has hit double figures in a struggling side during the last couple of seasons and will be hoping to carry on where he left off. He feels at home in London and he is unlikely to need a settling-in period at his new club. He is likely to start this game and he is the likeliest man to break the deadlock in this encounter. Lyle Taylor is priced at 6/1 with Ladbrokes and is the last of our Sunderland vs Charlton predictions. New customers can get a free £50 bet to use on any of this weekend’s League One games.

Sunderland Team News vs Charlton

Sunderland can’t call upon the injured Duncan Watmore who remains on the sidelines but is getting closer to a comeback. Lamine Kone’s future lies elsewhere and he’s unlikely to be included. Aiden McGeady and Ethan Robson may not be fit enough to feature. New signings Glen Loovens and Jon McLaughlin should go straight into the side.

Charlton Team News vs Sunderland

Charlton start the day with a number of absentees including Billy Clarke, Tarique Fosu, Ben Reeves and Igor Vetokele. They won’t be included. Lyle Taylor is likely to start as long as he has shrugged off a knock.

Sunderland Key Player vs Charlton

Sunderland have struggled with keepers in recent years but the addition of Jon McLaughlin should give them some consistency. The former Burton stopper is a dependable operator and an excellent shot-stopper and he could earn his side many points this campaign.

Charlton Key Player vs Sunderland

Jason Pearce is the key man at the back for Charlton and helped his side keep many clean sheets last season. The defender is a reliable veteran who helps organise the back-line and will be a role model for many of the Addick’s younger players.
