Hold the front page. Stop, collaborate and listen. You might want to sit down before you read this. I'm backing Liverpool to win this one. There. I said it. That wasn't so bad. Oh man, yes it was. I feel dirty and wrong.

Rodgers’ side come into Sunday’s game following a much improved performance at home to Manchester City after their opening day mauling at the hands of my ante post relegation tips West Brom. I know, I know. Might live to regret that one. Twitter Baggie @OneDaveHendo will doubtless use that as a stick with which to mercilessly beat me too. But I digress.

Bar Skrtel’s calamitous no-look back pass and some less than convincing goalkeeping by Reina, Liverpool might well have won this convincingly against the league champions, and their new manager's fresh approach is beginning to bear fruit. Witness their shading of the possession stats and outright domination of the shots and shots on target figures against a City side initially set up to keep the ball and spoil. Raheem Sterling's inclusion also provided some much needed feel good factor for the Anfield faithful, giving Liverpool fans weary of watching wasteful 50p foot Stewart Downing week after depressingly unproductive week some hope out wide again.

Arsenal meanwhile have had a pretty poor start to the season all around, still smarting understandably from the loss of RvP, and to a lesser extent Alex Song. So far their new look offensive line of Giroud and Podolski have, I suppose, at least done what it says on the tin and offended the Gooner faithful. Collectively they've offered the cutting edge of a butter knife, and neither provides the threat or predatory instincts of a Carlos Tevez who punished Liverpool so clinically last time out. Much has been made in certain quarters of the positive effect defensive coach Steve Bould has had in plugging the many and varied gaps Arsenal love to leave at the back, but both their offensive and defensive record at the same stage last season was identical. Last year however, although they had to get over losing not only Cesc but darling of the French fourth estate Samir Nasri too, at least the rest of their first team was largely unscathed. This year they will take longer to bounce back at both ends of the field after losing van Persie and Song, and with Sagna still laid up with a broken leg.

Liverpool, then, can make hay. Take them at a shade of odds against to win on the Sabbath. Furthermore, and I need to get this out quickly because this is really going to make me feel violated….deep breath….you can do it…..LUISSUAREZSCOREDANAMAZINGFREEKICKAGAINSTCITY … oh God please make it stop … deep breath … GARYNEVILLEWASRIGHTTHEWALLWASINTHERIGHTPLACEITWASUTTERCLASS … HEWILLSCOREAGAININTHISONE. Phew – okay, all done. Man – no, not okay – I'm sooo going to throw up.
