Liverpool vs FC Porto betting tips, predictions and preview for the first leg of the Champions League quarter final on Tuesday 9th April. The Reds will want to get a first leg lead before heading to Portugal in two weeks time.
Liverpool will hope they can get a decent lead going into the second leg.
In last season’s competition, Liverpool won the away leg 5-0 in Portugal before drawing 0-0 at Anfield.
We’re predicting a win for Liverpool, but don’t be surprised to see Porto score.
Last year’s losing finalists will have their eyes on another place in the Champions League showpiece this season, and they couldn’t have asked for a better quarter final draw. They are still well in the hunt to win the Premier League title following their win at Southampton on Friday night and Jurgen Klopp will be looking for a few goals at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Liverpool have got their defence sorted again in this competition, following just one clean sheet in nine matches, they’ve now kept two clean sheets in three matches and in their last three at home.
Andrew Robertson is suspended after a needless yellow card late on against Bayern Munich so James Milner is likely to play at left-back.
Porto are a good attacking side though and we’re expecting them to score here. They scored seven away goals in their group stage matches this season and also got a goal in Rome against Roma in the last round. Both teams to score is going to be our main Liverpool vs Porto prediction for this week’s Champions League fixture.
Liverpool to win – 3/10
Draw – 5/1
Porto to win – 10/1
As is the norm when Liverpool play now, we’re expecting goals to be scored here and that means an anytime goalscorer tip is a good option for a bet. Mo Salah scored in the win against Southampton to get his first goal in nine matches and it would be no surprise to see him find the net again against Porto. He’s Evens to score.
From a Porto point of view, striker Moussa Marega has a brilliant record in this competition and he’s scored in his last six appearances in the Champions League. This run includes goals in both legs of the last 16 against Roma.
For our anytime scorer betting tip, we’re going with Saido Mane to keep up his good goalscoring form despite not finding the net in his last two. Prior to that, Mane had scored in five of his last six matches, scoring a total of eight goals in that run, including two against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their last 16 tie.
Porto will not be pushovers in this tie and will be looking to gain revenge for the 5-0 hammering they suffered last season at the hands of Liverpool. They are in a title race similar to Liverpool’s with Manchester City – Porto are currently level on points with Benfica at the top.
However, Liverpool are usually fantastic at home and so in last season’s knock-out rounds they put breathing space between themselves and both Man City and Roma in the quarter finals and semi-final. If they can get a similar lead here it’ll leave them in a great position ahead of the second leg.
The last of our Liverpool vs Porto betting tips is for Liverpool to win the match 3-1 and the best odds for this selection are currently 10/1 with Betfred.
Porto have won eight of their last nine Champions League fixtures but went down 2-1 away to Roma in the last round, and could suffer a similar defeat at Anfield on Tuesday.
