Luton Town Preview & Team News

The Hatters had a season to remember in League One last campaign, they won the league on the final day of the season after setting the pace for much of the campaign, and now they find themselves back in the second tier of English football for the first time in 13 seasons. It is an exciting time around the football club with a new stadium expected to open in 2020 and some big fixtures in the Championship to look forward to including Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and their opponents here, Middlesbrough.

Luton have pre-season friendlies arranged with the likes of Welwyn Garden City, Bedford Town, Basingstoke Town and Norwich City before the campaign gets underway for real on August 2nd. Callum McManaman has already arrived from Wigan on a free transfer and manager Graeme Jones will need to add a lot more strength if Luton are to compete in this notoriously difficult league.

Middlesbrough Preview & Team News

It was agony for Middlesbrough at the end of last season as they missed out on a play-off place, however a run of six defeats on the bounce did the damage before a revival towards the end of the season almost got them back in the top 6. This season they’ll be looking for a minimum of a play-off spot and in the Sky Bet Championship outright odds, ‘Boro are 14/1 to win the league with bet365 and 4/1 to be promoted.

Middlesbrough have released Jon Obi Mikel and Stewart Downing has left for Blackburn Rovers, and new manager Jonathan Woodgate will be keen to bring in some new faces ahead of a big season for himself and the club.

Luton vs Middlesbrough Betting Preview

Middlesbrough to win – 6/4

Draw – 9/4

Luton Town to win – 19/10

The bookies are struggling to separate these sides in the betting odds and we can expect a fantastic atmosphere at Kenilworth Road for Luton’s first tilt at the Championship for 13 years. Both teams to score looks the most obvious bet here and at 8/11, that provides a safe option for an early season BTTS tip.

In the correct score odds, 1-1 is favourite (and one of our predictions) at 5/1. Luton to win 2-1 is priced at 10/1 or a 2-1 win for Middlesbrough is 9/1. A 1-0 Luton victory is 17/2 with Bet Victor or a 1-0 win for Middlesbrough is top price 15/2 with bet365.

Luton vs Middlesbrough Predictions

It looks tough to separate these two sides, with Luton having a big advantage of being at home for their first game back in the Championship in what is sure to be a fantastic occasion. That means the odds for them to win do appeal, however a draw could be the best way to play this match. Elsewhere, a punt on a 1-1 correct score bet could get our Championship betting tips for this season off to a flying start and it is probably a result both managers would be happy with.
