It’s been all change this summer at Lyon. Brazilian duo Juninho and Sylvinho are in charge of operations at the club, and they got off to the perfect start seven days ago. Lyon have always been a side who pour forward, and offer plenty in attack, and they showed their clinical side when capitalising on Cesc Fabregas’ sending off at Stade Louis II in their season opener. They are being tipped to finish second this season, and become ‘best of the rest’ behind PSG. Goals from Lucas Tousart, Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele made it a very comfortable night for OL, and stiffer tests surely await. Sylvinho insisted that he wasn’t getting carried away, and he is taking one game at a time. He will be aware that there will be an expectation on the home side to emerge with three points from this game, although Angers are dangerous opposition for any side in Ligue 1. The hosts do lead the head-to-head between these two sides and won 2-1 at this ground last season. Angers have found the net in each of the last five meetings between the sides, and they tend to put in a decent display against OL.

Angers got off to the perfect start with a convincing 3-1 victory over Bordeaux last weekend. They made it a miserable return to management for Paolo Sousa, with Jeff Reine-Adelaide looking particularly sharp in attack. He has been linked with a move to Lyon, and could have moved on by the time this game gets underway. Mathias Pereira Lage also looked very impressive, and Angers could surprise many sides this season. There were still areas of weakness, and conceding a goal after four minutes was far from ideal, but Les Girondins could not cope with their movement in the final third. They haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last seven meetings with this opposition, and with BTTS landing in their last five, we can expect plenty of entertainment on Friday night. Angers will not sit back, they are much more attack-minded than in previous seasons, and that approach will actually probably help their opponents.
The bookies are expecting Lyon to succeed here, and climb to the top of the table. They are a short price, but it’s very dangerous to completely write off Angers. They haven’t won here since 2015, but they usually do find the back of the net, so backing OL to win and Both Teams to Score looks like the best way of approaching this one. This gets us a decent price of 9/5 with Betway for the first of our Lyon vs Angers predictions.
Martin Terrier netted against Angers last season, and he ended the 18-19 season in tremendous form. He scored in four of Lyon’s last five home games at the end of the campaign, and if he is given the nod in this one, he looks an interesting option in the anytime goalscorer market. He’s the third favourite in this market and provides a better-priced alternative to Moussa Dembele.
