It's do or die for Mancini's men, as they must beat Real Madrid to keep any slim hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League alive.
Man City’s problems in Europe are well documented. Despite winning the league last year (and are unbeaten in the league this year…) Man City crashed out at the first hurdle in the Champions League last year, and need to beat Real Madrid to stand any chance of qualifying this time round (and even then it’s remote…) they have drawn two and lost two in the Champions league so far, sitting bottom of group D. Real Madrid will all but secure qualification with a win here, having amassed seven points from their four games so far.
Straight off the bat, i can’t believe Man City’s price is as large as it is – I thought that it was Real Madrid’s price! Regardless of whom Man City are playing, and there are few better teams than Real at the moment; better than 2/1 on a Man City home win is fantastic value – City may be pretty mediocre on the road, but they are generally very strong indeed at home, whereas Real Madrid have already lost four times away from home this season, and are defensively suspect.
What this game does definitely promise however is goals. These are two teams that are very top heavy in terms of scoring goals, and aren’t particularly good at keeping cleans sheets at the other end. Real Madrid have only kept one clean sheet in the last ten in the Champions League, whereas Man City have conceded more shots on target than any other side in the Champions League this season. Both teams scored five goals this weekend. Over 3.5 goals at 11/8 with Bet365? Go on then.
In terms of who is going to get the plethora of goals on offer, there are plenty of candidates – it could feasibly be any one from Ronaldo, Higuain, Benzema, Tevez, Aguero, Balotelli or Dzeko, and that’s just the out and out strikers! For my money, the best player that Man City have is Yaya Toure, he’s the complete midfielder, and when he plays well, Man City play well. He is a very large 9/2 to score anytime with SkyBet, and if Man City are going to win this, they need Toure on song.
