Manchester United vs Barcelona betting tips, predictions and preview for tonight’s Champions League quarter final first leg clash at Old Trafford. United will be looking to avoid a first leg defeat when Lionel Messi and co. arrive at Old Trafford tonight.
The Man United love-in with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken a bit of a hit in recent weeks and the new manager is facing his toughest spell of his short reign so far. They’ve lost to Wolves in the Premier League and been knocked out of the FA Cup by them, and also suffered a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
They are still in the hunt for a top four finish but are now three points behind Spurs in that race, and all attention tonight turns to Barcelona’s visit. They will want to avoid a performance and defeat like when PSG visited a few weeks ago.
The Spanish side are 11 points clear in La Liga but perhaps more importantly for this game, they don’t have the best away record in the Champions League. Even this season, they have only drawn at Lyon in the last knock-out round and last season threw away a massive first leg lead against Roma, losing 3-0 in Italy.
Even though they have amazing attacking talents, it’s not always on show away from home but one display that we should take note of was the 4-2 win at Wembley against Spurs, where Lionel Messi was at his brilliant best.
For tonight’s first Man United vs Barcelona betting tip, we’re betting against the Spanish side and hoping Manchester United can avoid defeat using the double chance market to get a 4/5 bet.
Man United to win – 14/5
Draw – 11/4
Barcelona to win – Evens
We’re quite simply spoilt for choice when looking for an anytime goalscorer tip on this match. Lionel Messi’s odds to score at Old Trafford are best at Unibet, where it’s 21/20 and they also have Luis Suarez and Coutinho in their ranks.
From a Manchester United point of view, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford were the hero’s in the comeback in Paris and both of them will be looking to get a vital goal for the home side before the return leg at the Nou Camp next week.
One players odds that has caught our eye here is Phillipe Coutinho. There have been some rumbles of unrest around himself and the club but with Dembele just coming back from injury, he started the second leg against Lyon and got a goal, and if he’s in the starting line-up for tonight’s match, the 7/2 for him to score anytime is too good a price to ignore. Coutinho also scored in Barca’s last away match, a 4-4 draw against Villarreal and if he starts this one could be a good selection for our Man United vs Barcelona betting tips.
The last of our Champions League predictions for this game is a correct score tip and we’re backing up our earlier prediction of United avoiding defeat with a 1-1 scoreline. This would give Barca the away goal they’ll be looking for but also fit in with their form in the competition away from home.
In their last eight away Champions League matches, Barcelona have only won twice (4-2 at Spurs and 2-1 at PSV). In the knockout matches last season they drew 1-1 at Chelsea and lost 3-0 at Roma. The season before that they lost 4-0 at PSG and 3-0 at Juventus and the season before that lost 2-0 at Atletico Madrid.
In their last six away Champions League knockout matches they’ve failed to win, that is why we’re completing our Man United vs Barcelona predictions with a 1-1 correct score bet.
